The posting

Overnight IT Support Technician - Levels I & II (On-Site) Shifts: 4:00 PM – 1:00 AM or 12:00 AM – 9:00 AM | Bakersfield, CA

Grapevine MSP is the Central Valley's largest managed IT services provider, based in Bakersfield. Founded in 2009 by CEO Joe Gregory during the recession, we've grown into a team of 60+ professionals with a clear mission: help businesses of all sizes thrive through smart, secure, and practical technology.

We partner with clients on proactive IT support, cybersecurity, cloud services, VoIP, strategic consulting, and true 24/7 help desk coverage. As Microsoft Tier 1 Partners and active community supporters, we're known for a "let's figure it out" mindset, a genuine focus on client outcomes, and the drive to solve real technology challenges.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced Overnight IT Support Technician to serve as the primary technical point of contact during our midnight shifts. This is not a pure ticket-taking role. You'll protect system stability, respond to critical alerts, and ensure clients wake up to fully operational environments.

If you are confident working independently, enjoy solving complex problems, and take pride in keeping systems running behind the scenes, this opportunity is for you.

Overnight, you are the front line of defense. You'll monitor systems, resolve support requests, perform scheduled maintenance, and escalate issues as needed. Your work directly impacts uptime, security, and client satisfaction. The role requires technical competence, sound judgment, and the ability to stay focused in a quiet but high-responsibility environment.

Core Responsibilities

System Monitoring & Oversight

  • Monitor servers, workstations, backups, and network infrastructure to ensure availability and performance.
  • Respond to alerts and performance warnings in real time.
  • Perform system checks that maintain uptime and stability.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Support Windows-based environments and manage user accounts.
  • Provide remote support with clear, professional communication.
  • Help users learn new systems, applications, and IT policies when needed.

Maintenance & Security

  • Execute scheduled updates, patching, and backup verification.
  • Maintain endpoint protection and antivirus standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company IT security policies; identify and report security risks, breaches, and suspicious activity.

Incident Handling & Documentation

  • Log and track all incidents accurately, perform root-cause analysis, and document resolutions and recurring patterns.
  • Escalate complex issues to the appropriate IT staff or third-party vendors and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of IT procedures, incidents, and resolutions.

Shift Transition

  • Provide detailed handoff notes to the day team.
  • Communicate ongoing concerns or unresolved items clearly so transitions remain seamless.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of IT support experience (MSP experience strongly preferred)
  • Solid hands-on experience with Windows operating systems
  • Practical experience with Active Directory (creating and managing users, permissions, and security groups)
  • Working knowledge of Group Policy
  • Solid understanding of network fundamentals and security best practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues independently
  • Professional communication skills and a customer-first approach

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure
  • Industry certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, or equivalent)

Why Grapevine MSP?

  • Exposure to a wide range of client environments and technologies
  • Real opportunity to grow your technical skills in a high-accountability overnight role
  • Supportive team culture with clear expectations
  • A position where reliability, ownership, and technical skill are noticed and valued

Benefits

Competitive pay

401(k) plan with 4% company matching

Low-cost, high-quality medical, dental, and vision coverage

Paid vacation and sick time

Performance bonuses

Work-anniversary recognition

Equipment and tools provided

Covered training courses plus Growth and Development Plans with industry-specific training when you want to advance

Team events and social events

  • This is a high-trust, high-responsibility overnight position. If you're dependable, technically sharp, and ready to own the midnight shift, we'd like to speak with you.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
