Job Title: Systems Engineer, MBSE Company: Grid.aero

About Grid.aero

Grid.aero is building the next generation of autonomous aviation systems for defense and commercial applications. Led by experienced aerospace and technology operators and backed by leading venture investors, we solve hard operational problems at the intersection of autonomy, resilient logistics, and scalable air mobility. We move quickly, operate with urgency, and build systems designed for real-world deployment where small teams own meaningful problems end-to-end.

Read this, we mean it → Above all, we look for exceptional builders with deep internal drive, massive throughput, hopeless optimism, and a relentless growth mindset. The people who thrive at Grid operate with urgency, learn quickly, adapt fast, and are energized by hard problems with no obvious answers. We value individuals who continuously push themselves and the team around them to improve.

This is an opportunity to work on products with national and global impact alongside a collaborative team that values technical excellence, execution, and mission focus.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Systems Engineer with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) experience to own the system model for our autonomous aircraft. You will turn mission needs into clear requirements, keep the model current, and use it to drive design decisions across the team. The model exists to answer questions and speed up the work, so you will keep it as simple as the program allows. We are filling two openings, one senior and one mid-level.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain the aircraft system model, including requirements, architecture, and interfaces
  • Translate customer and mission needs into clear aircraft and subsystem requirements
  • Own requirements traceability, verification planning, and change control
  • Track system budgets such as mass, power, thermal, and data, and drive them to closure
  • Integrate or create physics-based models for aircraft systems and their operations into the MBSE model.
  • Define and manage interfaces between subsystems, partners, and suppliers
  • Deliver model updates and support design reviews with customers on a regular cadence
  • Write and maintain the systems engineering plan

Key Qualifications

  • First-principles thinker who finds the simplest path to the goal and thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • 3+ years of systems engineering experience on aircraft or other complex hardware (7+ years for the senior opening)
  • Hands-on experience with SysML and an MBSE tool such as Cameo or MagicDraw
  • Experience with requirements development, traceability, and verification
  • Comfortable working across hardware, software, and test teams
  • Experience with DoD programs, DoD systems engineering and airworthiness standards, and digital engineering deliverables preferred
  • Legal Requirement: Due to U.S. export control laws, candidates must be U.S. persons (U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents).

Compensation $150 |.1-.5 Equity

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
