The posting

About us

Grid Status is revolutionizing the energy industry with a modern and open data analytics platform. Our mission is to provide accessible, actionable energy data to accelerate the energy transition.

In just two years, we've grown from zero to over 20,000 monthly active users across all facets of the energy sector. Our data has been featured in reporting and analysis by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and the Federal Reserve. Thousands of users rely on our products monthly, including renewable developers, asset operators, utilities, energy traders, and innovative startups.

What we're looking for

We're seeking an Energy Market Analyst focused on ERCOT to join our growing team. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of following the wholesale power markets, identifying areas and topics for content focus, and leveraging your experience to drive product development and help customers use Grid Status more effectively. You'll work closely with leadership to iterate and execute on these topics. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in ERCOT, an analytical mindset, and strong writing chops.

Whether you've got scars from fights over ancillary service duration requirements, a perfect mental model of eastern Houston's industrial transmission patchwork, or strong opinions on just how real any recent load forecast could possibly be, we want to hear from you.

Location: Fully remote or hybrid in Washington D.C., or Chicago

Responsibilities

  • Track long-term power market development and daily outcomes
  • Regularly pressure test Grid Status products as a power user
  • Suggest new products and provide feedback based on time in the industry
  • Develop explainers, longform deep dives, quick hits, and other written content on the power markets
  • Engage with customers through regular analyst calls
  • Write blog posts for Grid Status Exports, taking an idea from initial conception to near-final edits
  • Collaborate with the team to understand the drivers of specific market events
  • Help customers understand power market dynamics and point them to the right data or analysis
  • Serve as a product expert, evangelizing Grid Status solutions for data, analysis, and visualization needs across the energy industry

Requirements

  • 4-8 years of experience in wholesale power markets; trading, origination, development, and consulting are just some of the possible backgrounds
  • Proven track record of delivering written materials with a high level of clarity
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new markets and products
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills, with the ability to manage complex projects independently
  • Willingness to ask questions and engage in discussion - power markets are complex, and this role will involve in-person explication of market events
  • Basic knowledge of python or SQL for data analysis is preferred, but a willingness to learn is also fine
  • (If hybrid) Ideally, meet once a week in person

Not sure if you meet all of the qualifications? We value eagerness to learn and grow more than having checked every box.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary with equity
  • Health insurance with 100% premium covered
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • PTO / sick leave

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
