SUMMARY Assistant Director of Engineering provides management and leadership to engineering staff members and support in day to day operations and work flow. This position directly manages Resort Maintenance, Field Maintenance, Painting/Installation crew, and supports other Engineering functions when necessary. The Assistant Director of Engineering ensures the maintenance technicians and departmental supervisors provide quick responses, follow through, and excellent customer service to guests, residents, members, and departmental areas within the resort. This position reports to and takes directions from the Director of Engineering.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for planning and managing day to day work load of direct reports, with a focus on guest service, guest-facing maintenance, and projects Maintain department ledger, track expenses, coordinate billing, setup and services Install, operate, or maintain equipment, systems, or processes to meet requirements needed to service our guests and employees Assist Director in working with MIOSHA, DEQ and Health Department ensuring that the Resort practices follow all Federal, State and Local regulations Assist Director in providing proper equipment operation, troubleshooting, diagnosis and implementing necessary repairs Assist Director in establishing quality standards, preventative maintenance program, work order system, inventory control, R&M work, and room calls Oversee preventative maintenance program ensuring that all equipment and facilities are attended to according to standards Assist in negotiations and bids for contracts with vendors or contractors and initiate purchase orders Maintain all necessary documentation/inventories required for proper maintenance of building and equipment operation Oversee safety of facility operations and the physical response to natural or unnatural emergencies Interprets company policies for workers and enforces safety regulations Be responsible for the condition of all assigned tools and equipment Respond to mobile radio using professional etiquette. Be responsible for the condition of personally assigned mobile radio Maintain open line of communication with supervisor and provide department management when required including attending and directing weekly meetings with engineering staff Maintain superior working relations with internal and external customers while providing a memorable experience Ensure personal accountability for all work duties, assignments, and performance expectations Lead by example by displaying a readiness to respond positively to instruction and procedures Provide and receive feedback in a positive manner, earning respect from others by consistently displaying a positive attitude and behaviors Ensure work is completed in a safe manner, conscious of standard operating procedures, and use of personal protective equipment Adhere to uniform and personal appearance standards set forth by the Employee Handbook Exemplify and model GTRS Core Values Adhere to and ensure employee accountability for GTRS policies, procedures, and standards Comply with all workplace health and safety operating and reporting procedures including OSHA and MIOSHA All other duties as assigned

  EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Must possess an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical field or have 4 years of direct experience in institutional maintenance (hospitality preferred Must have 5 years of supervisory experience  Knowledge in the following areas is highly preferred: HVAC, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Controls, etc. Must have knowledge of all phases of facility management to include: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, preventative maintenance, kitchen equipment, boilers, roofing, and all other applicable commercial building systems Valid Michigan driver’s license and insurable through GTRS insurance policy Experience working with computer work order systems and Microsoft operating systems

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Provide and receive feedback in a positive manner, earning respect from others by consistently displaying a positive attitude and behaviors Team oriented with strong interpersonal skills, able to motivate others through work habits and set a good example Possess effective time management skills when completing assigned tasks Ability to identify complex problems, evaluate options, and implement solutions Possess excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal; communicating information and ideas in speaking so that others will understand Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Motivated with a positive attitude and perform effectively under high pressure/volume

  SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure all employees maintain valid certifications throughout their employment Administer policies and procedures fairly and consistently amongst all employees Ability to create a motivating climate, set and communicate job expectations, achieve teamwork, train and develop others, and measure work in progress Utilize appropriate coaching, counseling, and disciplinary methods Lead by example by displaying a readiness to respond positively to instruction and procedures Listen to and solve employee problems effectively, timely, and efficiently Paperwork (evaluations, schedules, purchase orders, timesheets, employee documentation, etc) is handled in a timely and efficient manner Ensure work is completed safely, according to standard operating procedures, and use of personal protective equipment, if required Ability to understand and adhere to budgetary adjustments, constraints, or limitations through responsible and timely decision-making

  TYPICAL PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to work from 12 foot ladder and/or from personnel lift up to 35 feet Utilize power tools, hand tools, electrical wiring, and deals with lock out/tag out Ability to quickly move arms, hands, and fingers to grasp; manipulate and assemble objects, walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or stand for long periods of time Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs Ability to comprehend and follow directions Effectively handle stressful and difficult situations/interactions while remaining focused and professional Ability to see objects at close range and at a distance Perform complex or varied tasks under deadlines and tight schedules Ability to work productively under strict time restraints with variable deadlines; last minute requests and changes will occur at any time Ability to maintain eye contact and engage with internal and external guests in a courteous and professional manner This list is not all inclusive due to variety of jobs involved which may include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc

  WORKING CONDITIONS

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and possible risk of electrical shock Working on roof or buildings, off extension ladders, personnel lift and other high places Frequently exposed to high and precarious places, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in a safe and productive manner Practice safety policies, procedures, and standards set by OSHA and/or MIOSHA Employee parking proximity to resort entrance varies season to season due to business volume Flexible schedule, at times may need to be willing to adjust and work evenings, weekends, and an occasional holiday
