What You Will Do:

Guidehouse is seeking a Managing Consultant to support healthcare operations and transformation initiatives for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), including Veteran and Family Member Programs (VFMP) within Veterans Community Care (VCC). VFMP supports healthcare benefits and services for eligible Veterans and family members through programs including the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA), Foreign Medical Program (FMP), and specialty programs. Its evolving vision emphasizes a more proactive, simple, transparent, and connected beneficiary experience, supported by clearer provider interactions, streamlined operations, stronger accountability, and a sustainable technology and data environment.

This role will help translate VFMP’s strategic direction into coordinated workstreams and actionable improvements across policy, operations, beneficiary and provider experience, workforce readiness, and technology enablement. Responsibilities include leading a team to plan and execute projects and deliverables; translating client priorities into clear workplans, assignments, and milestones; providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and substantive reviews of analyses and work products; and ensuring deliverables are accurate, actionable, and aligned with client expectations. This individual will engage directly with executive clients to clarify objectives, facilitate strategic discussions, communicate progress, and present findings and recommendations that support decision-making. The role also includes coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, managing scope and dependencies, proactively addressing risks and issues, and maintaining accountability for timely, high-quality delivery across concurrent initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines healthcare payer, provider, health system, managed care, or federal health experience with strong consulting and workstream leadership skills. Candidates should be comfortable moving between strategic analysis and day-to-day execution, engaging business and technical stakeholders, synthesizing complex information, and delivering executive-ready recommendations and practical implementation materials. Commercial payer and provider experience is strongly preferred for its application to VFMP’s operating-model transformation; prior VA experience is a plus.

Specific Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead integrated workstream delivery. Manage day-to-day execution across VFMP transformation and operational support initiatives, including workplans, deliverables, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, client engagement, and team coordination.
  • Translate strategic priorities into executable plans. Convert leadership direction and complex operational challenges into structured analyses, prioritized recommendations, defined outputs, accountable actions, and measurable outcomes.
  • Support large-scale implementation and modernization efforts, including business process redesign, operating model development, requirements definition, implementation planning, organizational readiness, and change management.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement activities, including workshops, interviews, requirements gathering, and cross-functional coordination to drive alignment, decision-making, and solution adoption.
  • Develop executive-ready presentations, decision materials, and strategic recommendations for client leadership.
  • Provide team leadership and support practice growth. Mentor junior staff through coaching, quality review, and day-to-day workstream leadership. Support proposals, contract modifications, scope and deliverable development, capability materials, and thought leadership.
  • Support business development activities, including proposals, contract modifications, capability development, and thought leadership.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years of consulting and/or healthcare industry experience.
  • Experience supporting healthcare payer, provider, managed care, health system, or federal health organizations through operational transformation, implementation, modernization, or performance improvement initiatives.
  • Understanding of healthcare reimbursement models, claims operations, payment processes, care delivery operations, revenue cycle functions, or related healthcare business operations.
  • Experience leading workstreams, translating ambiguous challenges into structured workplans, and managing multiple stakeholder groups in complex environments.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, facilitation, writing, and client communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience with VA, VCC, VFMP, or other federal healthcare benefits programs.
  • Commercial payer, managed care, or third-party administrator experience that can inform mission-appropriate federal operating-model improvements.
  • Knowledge of healthcare payer and provider functions, including eligibility and enrollment, member services, claims operations, payment integrity, utilization management, provider engagement, revenue cycle, care coordination, or population health.
  • Experience supporting communications and outreach workstreams, provider engagement strategies, stakeholder education, customer journey mapping, or human-centered service improvement.
  • Experience developing standard operating procedures, training resources, job aids, communications packages, and executive decision materials.
  • Experience supporting large-scale healthcare implementations, including requirements development, testing coordination, workforce readiness, launch support, and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Experience supporting cross-functional teams that include operational, business, clinical, policy, communications, and technical stakeholders.
  • MBA, MHA, MPH, or other relevant advanced degree.

The annual salary range for this position is $113,000.00-$188,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
