What You Will Do:

Guidehouse seeks an Unintentional Injury Subject Matter Specialist to support the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other federal public health agencies. The successful candidate will be a recognized public health and injury prevention expert with extensive experience in unintentional injury prevention, epidemiology, surveillance, research, program strategy, and implementation.

This individual will provide senior scientific, technical, and strategic leadership for complex public health initiatives focused on preventing unintentional injuries and reducing associated morbidity, mortality, and disparities. The role will serve as a trusted advisor to federal leaders, researchers, public health professionals, and multidisciplinary stakeholders by translating scientific evidence and programmatic data into actionable strategies, recommendations, and improvements.

The role requires deep expertise in applying scientific evidence to public health practice, assessing complex programs and organizational environments, guiding strategy and implementation, and coordinating multidisciplinary efforts to advance injury prevention priorities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide expert scientific, technical, and programmatic consultation on unintentional injury prevention, injury epidemiology, surveillance, prevention science, and related public health initiatives.
  • Conduct and provide senior oversight for literature reviews, environmental scans, evidence syntheses, and other scientific analyses to inform public health programs, strategies, and decision-making.
  • Lead and support development of scientific manuscripts, technical reports, white papers, executive briefings, presentations, and other scientific and programmatic products.
  • Assess current-state programs, organizational capabilities, processes, services, and operating environments and develop evidence-based recommendations for future-state models, strategies, and improvements.
  • Inform the development and implementation of injury prevention strategies, program priorities, and scientific and technical support services.
  • Translate scientific, epidemiologic, programmatic, and operational findings into actionable recommendations for federal public health leaders and other decision-makers.
  • Lead and facilitate implementation of organizational, programmatic, and operational change initiatives, including development of implementation approaches, roadmaps, stakeholder engagement strategies, and measures of success.
  • Coordinate multifaceted program areas and develop integrated strategies for delivering scientific, technical, analytical, and programmatic products and support services.
  • Establish structures, frameworks, and approaches that enable multidisciplinary teams to effectively execute individual components of complex programs and projects.
  • Build and sustain collaborative cross-functional structures capable of providing a broad range of scientific and subject matter support services.
  • Provide technical oversight for the development of scientifically rigorous, high-quality deliverables within established timelines.
  • Provide senior oversight across multiple client engagements, programs, or interconnected workstreams while establishing an overarching vision and maintaining alignment with client priorities.
  • Serve as a senior advisor and collaborate with federal agencies, state and local health departments, academic institutions, research organizations, professional associations, and other public health stakeholders to advance injury prevention priorities.
  • Provide thought leadership in injury prevention, epidemiology, public health strategy, and prevention science while fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary scientific and programmatic teams.

What You Will Need:

  • Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, injury prevention, behavioral or social science, medicine, clinical science, environmental health, or another applicable scientific, medical, technical, or public health discipline.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience in unintentional injury prevention, injury epidemiology, public health research, surveillance, prevention science, program strategy, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated senior-level subject matter expertise in unintentional injury prevention, injury epidemiology, injury surveillance, prevention science, or a closely related public health discipline, including experience applying scientific evidence to complex public health programs and priorities.
  • Experience providing senior scientific, technical, and strategic consultation, including conducting or overseeing literature reviews, evidence syntheses, scientific analyses, manuscripts, technical reports, and executive-level recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing complex programs or organizations, developing current- and future-state strategies, and leading implementation, change, or program improvement initiatives.
  • Experience leading or coordinating complex, multifaceted programs and multidisciplinary teams, with demonstrated ability to communicate technical information and recommendations to senior leaders and diverse stakeholder audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust clearance.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology, injury prevention, medicine, behavioral or social science, or another relevant scientific discipline, and/or a relevant professional credential or certification.
  • Nationally recognized expertise or demonstrated thought leadership in unintentional injury prevention, injury epidemiology, surveillance, prevention science, or a related public health discipline.
  • Significant experience supporting CDC, HHS, or another federal public health organization, including programs addressing major unintentional injury priorities such as falls, motor vehicle injuries, traumatic brain injury, drowning, or poisoning.
  • Demonstrated record of scientific contributions through peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, presentations, injury surveillance activities, research, program evaluation, or development of evidence-based prevention strategies.
  • Experience advising senior public health leaders and collaborating across federal, state, local, academic, healthcare, research, and nongovernmental organizations to advance complex public health initiatives.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
