The posting

GuidePoint Security provides trusted cybersecurity expertise, solutions and services that help organizations make better decisions and minimize risk. By taking a three-tiered, holistic approach for evaluating security posture and ecosystems, GuidePoint enables some of the nation’s top organizations, such as Fortune 500 companies and U.S. government agencies, to identify threats, optimize resources and integrate best-fit solutions that mitigate risk.

General Description

The DFIR Consultant is a core technical contributor within GuidePoint Security’s Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR) Practice. Working under the guidance of Senior and Principal Consultants, the DFIR Consultant performs investigations across a range of engagement types, produces clear and accurate analysis, and communicates findings effectively to clients while continuing to build depth across core DFIR disciplines.

The DFIR Practice performs reactive incident response investigations, forensic investigations, proactive threat discovery and threat hunting, and Purple Team exercises (as Blue Team in collaboration with the GuidePoint Red Team). In this role you will apply your technical skills, creativity, and adaptability to deliver results to clients across a variety of sectors.

About the DFIR & Threat Intelligence Practice

The DFIR & Threat Intelligence Practice helps organizations prepare for, respond to, and recover from cyber incidents, turning front-line experience into intelligence that keeps clients ahead of the threat. Six specialized teams work as one across the full arc of an incident, from readiness planning through response, recovery, and threat research. We partner with client security and legal teams, cyber insurance carriers, breach counsel, and GuidePoint’s regional and sales organizations to cut dwell time and limit business impact.

The six teams:

DFIR (Digital Forensics & Incident Response) — Breach investigation, forensics, containment, and eradication when an incident is confirmed or suspected.

IRA (Incident Response Advisory) — Readiness before an incident: IR planning, tabletop exercises, Blue Team enablement, and program maturity assessments.

GRIT (GuidePoint Research and Intelligence Team) — Original threat research and intelligence that drives our investigations, Threat Actor communications, TI advisory, and as-a-Service capabilities.

SD (Strategic Delivery) — Delivery management that keeps engagements staffed, on track, and consistent.

R&R (Recovery & Restoration) — Post-incident rebuild that returns clients to safe, operational environments.

Insurance & Counsel — The bridge to carriers and breach counsel through the claims and legal side of an incident.

What sets us apart: one integrated practice carries a client through the whole lifecycle with no hand-off gaps, including the demanding parts of an engagement that most providers cannot cover in-house, from GRIT’s Threat Actor communications and negotiation support to R&R’s full environment restoration and coordination with insurers and counsel. GRIT’s research feeds live investigations so our response reflects how adversaries operate now, and established carrier and counsel relationships make GuidePoint a trusted partner across the incident response community.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Technical Execution & Engagement Delivery

  • Investigation Execution: Perform DFIR investigations as a contributing technical resource, including host forensics, network traffic analysis, malware handling/triage, log review, and BEC analysis, under the direction of engagement leads.
  • Engagement Communication: Support effective engagement communication, time management, and coordination throughout the investigative lifecycle.
  • Deliverables: Produce clear, accurate engagement deliverables that detail technical findings, recommendations, business impact, and realistic remediation strategies for both technical and managerial audiences.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Peer Collaboration: Collaborate with peers and engagement leads across concurrent engagements, sharing findings and coordinating to deliver consistent, high-quality results.
  • Automation & Efficiency: Use scripting and automation to reduce manual processes and improve the efficiency of DFIR tasks.
  • Skills Development: Continually strengthen relevant skills, knowledge, and abilities to grow across core DFIR disciplines and stay current with the information security industry.

Client & Practice Contribution

  • Client Support: Support client relationships by providing information and guidance during engagements and serving as a reliable technical contributor.
  • Practice Contribution: Contribute to a perpetually evolving service portfolio driven by emerging threats and diverse client needs.
  • Growth Mindset: Maintain a strong desire to learn, adapt, and improve alongside a rapidly growing company; perform other duties as assigned.

Engagement & Availability Expectations

The DFIR Consultant is held to a high standard for availability, initiative, and ownership. This includes:

  • Maintaining availability outside standard business hours during high-severity incident surges.
  • Participating in on-call rotation as appropriate for the role.
  • Proactively surfacing gaps in engagement delivery, processes, or client communication to engagement leads.
  • Setting an example of professionalism, urgency, and ownership on every engagement.

Required Experience and Education:

  • High School diploma and 5 years of experience, OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience, OR Master’s degree.
  • Hands-on experience across core DFIR disciplines: host forensics, network traffic analysis, malware handling/triage, log review, and BEC analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and managerial audiences.
  • Creativity and adaptability to solve challenging problems in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Embraces emerging technologies, including AI tools, to work smarter, solve problems, and drive better business outcomes.

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Prior experience in a consulting or professional services role.
  • Experience with established DFIR methodology and process.
  • Experience with a variety of industry-related solutions including EDR, NDR, XDR, SIEM, FW, NGAV, Velociraptor, and others.
  • Proficiency with common programming and scripting languages including PowerShell, Python, Bash, Go, or similar.
  • Experience with enterprise cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Azure.
  • Awareness of attacker techniques, advanced threat groups, and integration of threat intelligence into an investigation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
