Job Description

Florida Blue 2027 IT Summer Internship Program

Florida Blue's Remote IT Summer Internship program is designed to give college juniors, seniors, and graduate students a hands-on look at our business processes and the tech systems that power them. You'll work on real projects, get on-the-job training, and partner with a mentor from your track-specific team.

In addition to your daily responsibilities, you'll have opportunities to:

  • Meet with leaders from all domains within the Tech organization
  • Engage with Executive Tech Leadership throughout the program
  • Present to Florida Blue's CIO and Tech Vice Presidents at the program's conclusion

We pride ourselves on a culture that values flexibility, innovation, and diversity. Bring your unique talents and help us advance our mission of helping people and communities achieve better health.

Read more about the tracks offered below and the qualifications/requirements for each.

Generative AI

You'll dive deep into the world of applied generative AI at GuideWell — working hands-on with enterprise AI platforms to design, build, and deploy solutions that solve real business problems. From prompt engineering and agentic workflows to tool integrations and responsible AI practices, you'll collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to bring AI capabilities to life across the organization.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A strong foundation in how large language models work, including prompting techniques, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic/tool-use patterns
  • Experience with LLM APIs and application frameworks (e.g., LangChain, or similar orchestration tools); experience with open-source or commercial models is a plus
  • Proficiency in Python; familiarity with ML/DL frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch is a plus but not required
  • Data manipulation and statistical analysis skills
  • Curiosity about responsible and effective AI adoption — how to evaluate, govern, and scale AI solutions in a business setting, not just build them
  • A passion for generative AI that drives you to push boundaries and explore new possibilities

A background in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, AI/ML, Data Science, Mathematics/Statistics, etc. is preferred.

Infrastructure

As an Infrastructure intern, you'll help in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to safeguard our company data, databases, and information systems. You'll be the one who keeps our technology secure, efficient, and running at peak performance.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A knack for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting technology
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining complex systems
  • A passion for keeping our digital kingdom safe and secure
  • The skills to develop and implement policies that protect our tech assets

Basic skills/experience:

  • Knowledge or experience with AI platforms, LLMs, or supporting AI infrastructure/integrations is a plus
  • Knowledge of Linux commands and understanding of how to work with Linux boxes
  • Basic understanding of OpenShift and Kubernetes

Cloud Engineering

As a Cloud Services intern, you'll delve into the world of infrastructure as code, networking, automation, data storage, and security, using industry-leading platforms like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A curious and adventurous spirit, always eager to learn and explore
  • A willingness to take on new challenges and push the boundaries of what's possible
  • A passion for cloud computing and its endless possibilities
  • The drive to stay ahead of the curve and master the latest cloud technologies
  • Experience with AWS or Azure is preferred

Cybersecurity

As a Cybersecurity intern, you'll have the chance to work alongside the best in the business, tackling real-world challenges and projects that make a real difference.

You'll be part of a top-notch cybersecurity organization, collaborating with highly skilled red-team and blue-team members who are experts in their field. Together, you'll take on the toughest security challenges, using your skills and knowledge to outsmart cyber threats and protect our digital assets. You'll explore multiple security frameworks, stay ahead of the curve, and work on developing a deep understanding of information security concepts, principles, and solutions.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A passion for cybersecurity and a desire to make a real impact
  • A strong foundation in information security principles and practices
  • The drive to stay ahead of cyber threats and protect our digital world
  • Interest in how AI-assisted tools are changing threat detection and response is a plus

Completed or in-progress certifications such as Security+, Network+, A+, and/or Linux+ preferred.

Data Analytics

As a Data Analytics intern, you'll work on real-world business problems and publicly available datasets, applying cutting-edge techniques like data wrangling, model development, and visualization.

You'll be focused on data analytics, business intelligence, and data quality assessment for Florida Blue, working to drive business growth and improve health outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you'll need to be:

  • Have basic skills in SQL, R, and/or Python

Data Science

As a Data Science intern, you will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects, collaborate with experienced data scientists and engineers, and contribute to the development of innovative data analytics solutions. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and deploying data analytics models and algorithms to solve business problems, and analyzing large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.

Key skills required include knowledge of machine learning algorithms, deep learning techniques, data analysis, and visualization, as well as strong collaboration and communication skills.

Application Development

As an application developer, you'll have the chance to showcase your creative skills, leveraging your knowledge of web development, design, and programming to craft solutions that make a real impact.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
