Centalion 2027 US Internship Program

Contract Type:

Time Type:

Job Description:

Centalion | U.S. Summer Internship Program:

Houston, Texas | Trading Operations & Commercial Support

Every day, energy moves across continents, connecting global supply with demand. Behind that movement is a complex network of trading, logistics, operations, and financial expertise.

At Centalion, we move physical energy from where it is sourced and stored to where it is demanded most using the most logistically efficient means possible, including ships, rail, trucks, and pipelines.

Our Houston-based Summer Internship Program offers ambitious university students an opportunity to experience this dynamic business firsthand. From the trading floor to the movement of physical commodities, you'll gain exposure to the people, systems, and decisions that keep global energy markets moving. Working alongside experienced industry professionals, you'll contribute to meaningful business activities, develop commercial and analytical skills, and discover how trading, operations, risk management, and finance come together to execute complex energy transactions.

The Opportunity:

As a Centalion Summer Intern, you'll become part of the teams responsible for supporting the execution and management of physical commodity transactions across global energy markets, including crude oil, refined products, natural gas, power, and LNG. Whether you're interested in global markets, supply chains, financial operations, or data analytics, this program provides an opportunity to develop practical skills and understand how a leading commodities trading business operates. You'll work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where precision, problem-solving, communication, and accountability are essential to success.

What You'll Do:

Depending on your assigned team and business priorities, your responsibilities may include:

Trading Operations & Execution

  • Support daily trading operations and gain exposure to the lifecycle of physical commodity transactions, from contract execution through delivery and settlement.
  • Assist with scheduling, logistics coordination, and the operational execution of physical trades.
  • Help monitor trading activity, contractual obligations, and operational risks to support safe, efficient, and timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to identify and resolve issues affecting trade execution.

Trade Support & Commercial Coordination

  • Assist with trade verification, confirmations, contract administration, and transaction reconciliation.
  • Review trade data against internal systems and external counterparty records, identifying discrepancies and supporting resolution.
  • Support contract documentation, tracking, and record management.
  • Work closely with trading, operations, finance, and accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions.

Financial Operations & Settlements

  • Assist with invoice processing, payment tracking, and financial reconciliation associated with physical commodity transactions.
  • Gain exposure to how trading activity flows through financial, operational, and risk management systems.
  • Help maintain accurate transaction records and support financial controls.
  • Assist with identifying and resolving discrepancies in settlement and payment processes.

Systems, Data & Process Improvement

  • Work with energy trading and risk management (ETRM) platforms, Excel, and other business applications.
  • Analyze operational data, maintain reporting tools, and support the accuracy of trading information.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency.
  • Participate in team projects that enhance processes, systems, or reporting capabilities.

Risk Awareness & Problem Solving

  • Develop an understanding of the commercial, financial, and operational risks involved in global commodity markets.
  • Help identify transaction discrepancies, escalate potential issues, and support timely resolution.
  • Collaborate across functions to understand how trading decisions affect downstream business activities.

Who We're Looking For:

We're looking for commercially minded, motivated students who thrive in collaborative, fast-paced environments and are interested in building a career in energy, commodities, or financial markets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a willingness to learn new systems and technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, take ownership of assignments, and deliver high-quality work.
  • A collaborative mindset, intellectual agility, and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Demonstrated interest in global markets, energy trading, logistics, or commodity supply chains.

Prior experience in commodities trading is not required.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
