      Schedule: Reporting with regular local events and community coverage; flexibility for breaking news as required.   Position Summary:   As a Reporter, you will source, write, and delivery timely, engaging local news with a sharp focus on the stories that matter most to Wood Buffalo listeners.  You’ll be out in the community; building contacts, attending local conferences and events, turning what you find there into original stories for on-air and online.  You’ll report on breaking news as it happens and creatively incorporate local sound and voices to bring the Fort McMurray community to life – including through Fort McMurray Matters, the market’s flagship local interview program.   Essential Responsibilities:  

Research, write, and voice original local news stories for radio and online publication, with a strong emphasis on Wood Buffalo-specific stories over wire/generic content.  Gathering/editing/sending audio clips to news anchor in timely fashion for use in newscasts. Attend local conferences, media events, council meetings, and community events as scheduled – condensing what happens there into locally relevant, on-the-ground news stories. Develop story ideas through active community engagement, local contacts, and monitoring of social media and news sources. Produce and contribute for Fort McMurray Matters, sourcing guests and community voices, producing interviews segments and community spotlights, and packaging episodes for the Fort McMurray Matters podcast. Curate and update Harvard Media’s Fort McMurray station websites and social channels with accurate, relevant and engaging local content. Report on breaking news stories as they occur. Flexible hours when needed. Collaborate with newsroom and programming teams to align storytelling across broadcast and online platforms. Localize regional, national, and international trending stories for Wood Buffalo audience. Represent Harvard Media professionally at media and community events. Backfill vacation/sick time as needed. Other duties as assigned.

  Qualifications:  

Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
