PRODUCT DEVELOPER – LIGHTING

Based in Copenhagen

At our office in the heart of Copenhagen, you will join our Lighting Product Development team, working closely with talented designers, colleagues across different functions and international manufacturing partners. You will play a key role in transforming creative ideas into high-quality lighting products that combine design, functionality and technical excellence.

About the job

As Product Developer – Lighting at HAY, you will be involved in developing decorative LED lighting products from initial concept to final production. Combining technical development skills with a strong understanding of design, you will work closely with designers, internal teams and international manufacturing partners to bring creative ideas to life.

An important part of your role will be to maintain the original design intent throughout the development process, while ensuring that products meet technical requirements and can be manufactured efficiently. You will help drive projects forward, balancing design, functionality, quality, cost and timelines.

Your daily tasks will include:

  • Manage product development projects from initial concept to production, ensuring timelines and key deliverables are met.
  • Develop decorative LED lighting solutions, including optics, thermal management, drivers and dimming technologies.
  • Create detailed, production-ready 3D models, assemblies and technical drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Translate design concepts into technically feasible products, developing and testing prototypes and resolving technical and manufacturing challenges.
  • Prepare technical specifications, bills of materials (BOMs) and test documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical, safety, sustainability and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with designers, internal teams and external manufacturing partners throughout the development process.
  • Manage project timelines, costs and technical deliverables, supporting suppliers with tooling, pilot production and quality control.
  • Format 2D documentation utilizing Microsoft and Adobe Creative Suite packages.

Are you the Product Developer we are looking for?

We are looking for a technically skilled Product Developer who is passionate about contemporary design and has an eye for detail. You understand how to translate creative ideas into functional products without compromising the designer's original vision. You combine technical knowledge with a practical, solution-oriented approach and enjoy working at the intersection of design, engineering and manufacturing. You are comfortable taking responsibility for your projects, keeping track of timelines and collaborating with colleagues and external partners to find the best solutions.

Role expectations

  • You are structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • You enjoy collaborating with designers, colleagues and external partners.
  • You are a team player who values collaboration and contributes positively to the HAY culture.

Experience required

  • You have a relevant educational background in Product Development, Industrial Design, Engineering or a related field.
  • You have experience in technical product development, ideally taking products from concept to production. Experience within decorative lighting is an advantage.
  • You have technical knowledge of LED lighting and an understanding of relevant electrical, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • You are proficient in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies and technical drawings.
  • You have experience with prototyping, testing and technical documentation, along with an understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and supplier collaboration.
  • You are familiar with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite for preparing and formatting product documentation.
  • You communicate confidently in English, both written and spoken, as we are an international company.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
