PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To support the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor in leading the workshop team to ensure the effective servicing, repair, and ongoing reliability of the company’s transport and logistics fleet. The Mechanic 2IC plays a hands-on role in maintenance activities while also assisting with coordination, prioritisation of work, and team leadership in the Supervisor's absence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor in daily coordination of workshop operations and task allocation. Perform and oversee scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles including trucks, forklifts, trailers, generators, and refrigerated transport units. Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults across a variety of light and heavy vehicles. Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all maintenance tasks in the maintenance management system. Provide mentoring and technical support to junior mechanics and apprentices. Support parts ordering, inventory tracking, and liaise with suppliers as required. Uphold safety and compliance standards in all workshop activities, contributing to a zero-harm culture. Step into the supervisory role during the absence of the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor, including staff oversight and workflow management. Collaborate with logistics and transport teams to minimise vehicle downtime and support efficient fleet operations. Assist in ongoing improvements to maintenance procedures, tools, and workshop practices.
