Job Description
Senior Product Manager
Why join us
Our Data & Analytics teams help colleagues across Sainsbury’s make better decisions through trusted data, insight and increasingly AI-enabled products.
As a Senior Product Manager working within our Commercial area, you’ll lead a significant Data & Analytics product area and shape how data and insight are used to improve some of the decisions that matter most to our customers and our business.
You’ll work closely with Commercial, Analytics, Product, Engineering and Data Science colleagues to understand the problems we need to solve, set the direction for your product area and turn opportunities into measurable outcomes.
It’s an opportunity to work on complex, high-impact Commercial challenges while helping us continue to strengthen how we work as a Product organisation.
What you’ll do
- Own the strategy, direction and roadmap for a significant Data & Analytics product area, creating clarity on the problems we are solving and the outcomes we want to achieve.
- Partner closely with Commercial teams to understand their decisions, challenges and opportunities, identifying where data, analytics, BI and emerging AI capabilities can improve outcomes and translating these into clear product priorities.
- Lead discovery and delivery, using data, insight and customer understanding to test opportunities and determine where we should invest.
- Define measurable customer and business outcomes and use evidence to prioritise investment and demonstrate the impact your products are having.
- Work across Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data Science and Delivery teams to turn strategy into valuable products and capabilities.
- Manage priorities, dependencies and trade-offs, breaking larger opportunities into smaller increments that deliver value early and often.
- Continually review and evolve your product area, including simplifying, modernising or retiring existing products where they no longer meet business needs.
- Help move our analytical products beyond simply explaining what happened, towards helping colleagues understand what to do next.
- Contribute to our wider Product community, helping develop our product culture, capability and ways of working.
Who you are
You’re an experienced Product Manager who is comfortable working in a complex, data-rich environment and turning ambiguity into clear direction.
You combine strong product judgement with curiosity about how a business works. You’re interested in the decisions colleagues need to make, the problems behind them and how data, analytics and technology can help.
You’re equally comfortable working with senior Commercial stakeholders and multidisciplinary technical teams, and you can bring different perspectives together around a shared problem and outcome.
You don’t need to be a data scientist or engineer, but you should be comfortable working with data and technology and able to understand enough of the detail to make good product decisions.
Essential criteria
- Proven experience owning and leading a complex product area, from strategy and discovery through to delivery and value realisation.
- Experience defining product strategy and roadmaps based on customer and business problems rather than simply managing a backlog of requirements.
- Evidence of delivering measurable customer and/or business outcomes through digital, data, analytics or insight products.
- Strong product discovery skills, with experience using evidence and insight to understand problems, test opportunities and prioritise investment.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and bringing business and technical colleagues together around shared outcomes.
- Strong strategic judgement, including the ability to prioritise competing needs, make effective trade-offs and communicate the rationale behind decisions.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including the ability to make complex topics clear to senior and non-technical audiences.
