Harper’s BAZAAR is seeking a culturally fluent, style-obsessed Fashion Writer to create authoritative and engaging editorial content across digital platforms. This role offers the opportunity to cover the people, ideas, and moments shaping fashion—from runway collections and designer launches to celebrity style, luxury retail, and emerging cultural trends—while developing a distinctive editorial voice for one of fashion’s most influential brands.

About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)

Hearst Magazines is home to 30 leading editorial brands that inspire, inform, and entertain millions of audiences across print, digital, video, social, and emerging platforms. Our teams are driven by creativity, innovation, and collaboration, delivering exceptional content and experiences while shaping the future of media.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)

  • Pitch, report, write, and update compelling fashion stories for Harper’s BAZAAR’s digital audience.
  • Cover timely fashion news, designer launches, runway shows, red-carpet style, fashion weeks, and cultural moments.
  • Develop trend, service, shopping, and evergreen stories that reflect BAZAAR’s distinctive editorial point of view.
  • Conduct interviews with designers, industry leaders, creatives, and relevant cultural figures.
  • Monitor the fashion cycle and identify timely, original, and audience-relevant story opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships across fashion, beauty, entertainment, and cultural communities to support reporting and coverage.
  • Collaborate with editors, social, visual, SEO, commerce, and newsletter teams to extend stories and reach audiences across platforms.
  • Write clean, accurate, engaging copy under deadline and incorporate editorial feedback efficiently.
  • Uphold rigorous editorial standards, including fact-checking, sourcing, attribution, and thoughtful representation.
  • Contribute to newsletters, commerce content, and multimedia storytelling opportunities as needed.

Qualifications (What We're Looking For)

  • 3+ years of writing or reporting experience in fashion, lifestyle, culture, or a related editorial field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the fashion industry, including designers, collections, luxury, retail, runway, and emerging talent.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating clear reporting, sharp analysis, strong storytelling, and an engaging editorial voice.
  • Experience covering runway collections, fashion weeks, luxury retail, or related fashion industry events.
  • Established relationships within fashion, beauty, entertainment, or cultural communities is a plus.
  • Experience creating digital-first content in a fast-paced newsroom or editorial environment.
  • Strong research, interviewing, fact-checking, copy-editing, and reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices, audience analytics, social platforms, and digital storytelling.
  • Experience with commerce content, newsletters, or multimedia storytelling is a plus.
  • Strong visual instincts, including the ability to identify imagery that effectively supports an editorial narrative.
  • Excellent judgment, organization, and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Collaborative, curious, and adaptable approach with a deep appreciation for Harper’s BAZAAR’s legacy, audience, and point of view.
  • This role is based in New York, NY and requires working from the office four days per week.

Benefits (What We Offer)

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
