Staff Accountant Position Summary The Staff Accountant is a key member of the accounting team responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations and the monthly close process. This position performs general ledger activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable functions, and other accounting responsibilities to ensure financial information is accurate and timely. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
Prepare and post month-end journal entries and supporting documentation. Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate variances or discrepancies. Assist with month-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Maintain and review general ledger accounts for accuracy and completeness. Process vendor invoices and enter vendor bills into the accounting system for approval and payment. Track open purchase orders and follow up on outstanding items as needed. Process ACH payments and maintain appropriate payment documentation. Maintain accurate and complete vendor records. Respond to and resolve vendor and accounts payable inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Prepare and process annual 1099s and related reporting. Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation as needed. Support the preparation of financial reports and accounting schedules. Identify and communicate accounting discrepancies or issues to the appropriate team members. Maintain organized and accurate accounting records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards. Provide general accounting support to the Controller and broader finance team. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles and general ledger processes. Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the accounting team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Sage accounting software. Experience with NetSuite or another ERP system. Experience in the construction, traffic control, infrastructure, or related industries. Experience with multi-location or multi-entity accounting. Experience supporting external audits and year-end financial reporting.
