Junior Full Stack Developer (Java / React.js)

Location: Amsterdam Working Model: Hybrid – Hybrid – working from the Amsterdam office a couple of days a week. Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We are looking for a Junior Full Stack Developer to join an engineering team in Amsterdam. You will contribute to building and maintaining software applications across both backend and frontend.

The role combines Java and Spring Boot development on the backend with React.js on the frontend. While this is a Full Stack position, candidates will be assessed primarily on their backend capabilities, so solid Java and Spring Boot experience is especially important.

You will work as part of an experienced engineering team, contributing to real product development and gradually taking ownership of your technical solutions.

What You’ll Do

Software Development

  • Develop and maintain high-quality applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build and maintain frontend functionality using React.js.
  • Write clean, readable, reusable and maintainable code.
  • Apply appropriate design patterns and development best practices.
  • Follow principles such as SOLID and DRY.
  • Write unit and integration tests and contribute to overall application quality.
  • Refactor and improve existing code when needed.
  • Follow security, data integrity and coding standards.

End-to-End Ownership

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of services throughout their lifecycle.
  • Monitor application health and performance and respond to issues when required.
  • Support deployment and production operations.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.

System Design & Problem Solving

  • Contribute to technical and architectural discussions.
  • Help evaluate different approaches to solving technical problems.
  • Understand the impact of changes to existing systems.
  • Design solutions that meet current business requirements while remaining adaptable for future improvements.

Incident Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the team in investigating and resolving production issues.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and long-term solutions.
  • Participate in postmortems and incident tracking.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and application performance.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Work closely with developers, Engineering Managers, Product Owners and other stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate technical ideas and progress.
  • Ask relevant questions and actively listen to understand requirements.
  • Collaborate with the team to find practical and effective solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in software development.
  • Commercial development experience with Java.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot.
  • Experience with React.js and frontend development.
  • Good understanding of software engineering fundamentals.
  • Understanding of SOLID, DRY and common design patterns.
  • Knowledge of software testing principles and practices.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable and reusable code.
  • Basic understanding of application architecture and system design.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Important

Although this is a Full Stack Developer position, the client will assess candidates primarily on their backend capabilities.

Therefore, strong Java and Spring Boot skills are a key requirement, while React.js experience is required for the frontend part of the role.

We are looking for a developer who is ready to grow, take ownership of their work and develop within a professional engineering environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
