Position Summary Henderson Building Solutions is seeking a Refrigeration Commissioning Technician to support the startup, testing, commissioning, and optimization of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems across the United States. In this role, you will work hands-on with large-scale refrigeration systems, helping bring newly installed facilities online and ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and as designed. You'll perform system startup, diagnostics, controls verification, operational testing, and troubleshooting for ammonia (NH3), CO2 transcritical, and hybrid refrigeration systems in mission-critical commercial environments. This is an ideal opportunity for a refrigeration professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, traveling to project sites, and working directly with contractors, owners, and equipment manufacturers to deliver successful project startups. You will play a critical role in identifying and resolving system issues, optimizing performance, and ensuring refrigeration systems are fully operational before turnover to the end user. The position can be based out of any Henderson office and requires regular travel to project sites throughout the country. Key Responsibilities:
Creates owner project requirements, construction plans and specifications Reviews drawings and maintains a record of comments Generate checklists and tests for equipment Make site visits to complete pre-functional test checklists Generates site observation and issues reports Reviews equipment submittals and maintains a record of comments Performs testing, adjusting and balancing tasks, which includes adjusting air and hydronic systems Makes site visits to complete functional performance tests Generates site observation and issues reports Generates final reports Makes site visits to troubleshoot issues Assesses equipment operation and conditions Generates reports summarizing visits, equipment conditions and recommendations Develops and maintains client relationships Setups projects and folders Evaluates budgets to determine the proper allocation of resources and time for each job
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of engineering required, or 4+ years of experience without a relevant degree. Common examples include Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or Architectural Engineering. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
Commissioning certification preferred (NEBB TAB Tech or Cx Tech)
Previous commissioning or testing/balancing experience preferred Experience commissioning ammonia (NH3) and/or CO2 refrigeration systems preferred
Ability to reliably and predictably carry out the functions of this job Strong verbal and written communication skills Able to work with some degree of independence but may require frequent supervision and mentoring Ability to understand drawings and specifications and how they translate into a building Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional and light industrial facilities as they relate to commissioning Basic knowledge of Automation and controls systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, fire alarm/life safety systems, lighting and lighting controls, and test and balance Have an understanding of ASHRAE, ACG and LEED commissioning requirements Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam Ability to read and understand blueprints Valid driver’s license
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Significant travel required – approximately 50% of time Must be flexible and able to travel with little notice Ability to work varying shift times depending on the project, i.e. night or weekends Ability to be on your feet all day and climb ladders
