About the Department

Join the Respiratory Therapy Department at Henry Ford Southfield Hospital, a respected network of hospitals serving communities across Oakland County. Our team is dedicated to providing advanced specialty care with deep local roots, ensuring our patients receive the highest quality of treatment. As part of Southfield Providence Hospitals, you'll work in a supportive environment with excellent amenities and strong community connections, all while being backed by the strength of a leading health system.

Role Overview

As a Respiratory Therapy Extern, you'll play a vital role in supporting patient care under the supervision of Registered Respiratory Therapists. This position is designed for full-time students in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, allowing you to apply classroom knowledge and clinical skills in a real-world hospital setting. Your contributions will directly impact patient outcomes while you gain valuable hands-on experience.

What You Will Do

  • Perform basic respiratory therapy tasks under the supervision of Registered Respiratory Therapists.
  • Apply skills learned in academic and clinical settings to support patient care.
  • Demonstrate competency in theoretical and practical tasks as assessed by departmental leadership.
  • Adhere to all Henry Ford Health departmental policies and procedures.
  • Expand your scope of practice as you gain knowledge and experience.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time student in good standing in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, preferably affiliated with Henry Ford Health.
  • Successful completion of academic and clinical competencies specific to each task.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Affiliation with a Henry Ford Health-affiliated Respiratory Therapy program.
