The posting

The School of Engineering at High Point University seeks three new full-time faculty at the Assistant/Associate ranks to begin August 2026. HPU launched new Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics majors in Fall 2024 and state of the art Makerspace and teaching labs in Fall 2025. We will make multiple hires to support these rapidly growing programs. We seek creative, dynamic individuals to play a critical role in the development of innovative, active learning classes and laboratories, and to mentor highly motivated students in undergraduate research projects and design competitions.

The successful candidates will teach a variety of courses within the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics programs. Additional expectations include academic advising, supporting undergraduate research, assisting the department with ABET accreditation, and serving on college and university-wide committees. One new hire will be enthusiastic about leading our Senior Design Project course, including developing partnerships with local industry. Faculty appointments are for a nine-month contract period with a normal teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, or a closely related field like Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Materials Science. All areas of research specialty are accepted, and industry experience is also desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

The successful candidate should have demonstrated promise of excellence in teaching, a record of scholarly achievement, an entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in working with highly motivated undergraduate students. While it is anticipated that these positions will be filled at the Assistant Professor level, highly qualified applicants will be considered for higher ranks. The success of our undergraduate students is our primary focus.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 24 contact hours (typically 5 – 6 classes) per year
  • Advise students
  • Produce scholarly research or creative activity, especially in partnership with undergraduate students
  • Assist with curriculum development and ABET Accreditation
  • Assist with university recruiting efforts
  • Participate in department, college, and university meetings and committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean

Founded in 1924, HPU is a 101-year-old liberal arts institution located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. All applicants must submit a single attachment with the following sections:

  • A letter of interest addressing the required qualifications and responsibilities
  • A current CV
  • A statement of teaching philosophy
  • A statement of research interests
  • Unofficial transcripts of graduate and undergraduate education
  • Names and contact information for three professional recommendations

Any questions related to this position should be sent to Dr. Brian Bernard, Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, [email protected] .

Review of applications will begin September 29 and will continue until the positions are filled. Start date for each new hire is August 2026. Applicants who don’t meet the qualifications or are not legally authorized to work in the US will not be considered.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
