The posting

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical Financial Reporting Analyst to support accurate financial reporting, operational analysis, and informed business decisions. This position will help translate financial and operating data into clear, reliable information that supports cost management, financial planning, and organizational performance.

Working closely with Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, and operational leadership, the Financial Reporting Analyst will prepare financial and management reports, analyze budget variances, reconcile data across systems, and identify trends affecting business results. The role will analyze information from the organization's accounting systems and Kronos payroll and timekeeping platform, including labor costs, overtime, departmental expenses, and other operating costs.

The ideal candidate combines a strong accounting foundation with advanced analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to explain financial information to both financial and operational audiences. Success requires curiosity, accuracy, ownership, and an understanding that dependable reporting begins with dependable data.

Essential Responsibilities

Financial and Management Reporting

  • Prepare recurring monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and management reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.
  • Support the preparation and analysis of income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Develop departmental cost reports and management reporting packages that clearly communicate financial results, trends, risks, and exceptions.
  • Analyze actual results against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods; investigate significant variances and explain the underlying business drivers.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities through reconciliations, account analysis, supporting schedules, and coordination with Accounting.
  • Respond to financial information requests from leadership and provide clear, well-supported analysis.

Operational and Cost Analysis

  • Analyze operating expenses, labor costs, overtime, maintenance spending, and other costs associated with mining and industrial operations.
  • Partner with operational leaders to understand cost drivers, investigate unusual activity, and improve the usefulness of financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators, including cost per unit of production, labor utilization, and departmental budget performance, as appropriate.
  • Support inventory and production cost analysis, including review of cost allocations and related financial information.
  • Assist with capital expenditure tracking and reporting, including comparisons of approved budgets to actual spending.
  • Identify cost trends, reporting gaps, and opportunities to strengthen financial visibility and expense management.

Systems and Data Integrity

  • Extract, organize, validate, and reconcile data from accounting systems, Kronos, and other approved business applications.
  • Analyze payroll and timekeeping data to support labor cost reporting, overtime analysis, departmental allocations, and related reconciliations.
  • Work with Payroll, Human Resources, and Accounting to investigate discrepancies between payroll reports, labor allocations, and general ledger records.
  • Develop and maintain Excel models, reporting templates, and dashboards that improve consistency and reduce manual work.
  • Support financial reporting system improvements, data mapping, integrations, testing, and validation of reporting changes.
  • Document report definitions, data sources, assumptions, and procedures so reports can be reproduced and understood.

Planning, Controls, and Collaboration

  • Assist with annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and financial planning by preparing historical analyses and supporting schedules.
  • Support internal controls over financial reporting through accurate documentation, reconciliations, review procedures, and appropriate handling of confidential information.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation requested for internal reviews and external audits.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Human Resources, IT, and operational teams to resolve reporting issues and improve processes.
  • Present findings clearly and professionally, including recommendations supported by the analysis.
  • Perform special analyses, projects, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in financial reporting, financial analysis, accounting, or a closely related function.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial statements, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, analyzing budget variances, and explaining business performance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, complex formulas, and analysis of large datasets.
  • Experience extracting and reconciling data from accounting or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Ability to identify data inconsistencies, investigate root causes, and produce accurate, well-supported conclusions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring reporting deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to individuals outside Finance.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate across departments, and maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, industrial construction, or another operationally complex environment.
  • Experience using Kronos payroll or timekeeping data for labor cost analysis, reporting, or reconciliation.
  • Experience with cost accounting, inventory valuation, production costing, or capital expenditure reporting.
  • Proficiency in Power Query, Power Pivot, Power BI, or comparable reporting and business intelligence tools.
  • Working knowledge of SQL or other tools used to retrieve and analyze financial data.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, integrations, report automation, or financial process improvements.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or progress toward either designation.

Work Environment

The Financial Reporting Analyst will work primarily in a onsite office environment supporting an active mining and industrial operation. The position involves regular collaboration with Accounting, Finance, Payroll, Human Resources, and operational leadership.

Responsibilities require extended computer use, careful review of detailed financial information, and the ability to meet time-sensitive reporting deadlines. Additional hours may occasionally be necessary during month-end close, year-end reporting, budgeting, audits, or special projects.

Visits to operational areas may be required to understand business processes and cost drivers. When entering these areas, employees must follow applicable site safety requirements and use required personal protective equipment.

Equal Opportunity Employer

The organization is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
