About Us

A career at Hitachi Rail will help create a legacy. With operations in every corner of the world, our work goes to the cutting-edge of digital transformation and technology. From the multi-cultural strength of our global organisation to the sustainable and innovative ways we work to bring people together, there’s something for everyone to get stuck into. And that’s where you come in.

Job Description:

Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Supplier Risk Management Director to join our Global Procurement function and take a leading role in shaping and strengthening supplier risk management across Hitachi Rail.

This is a strategic, globally focused position where you will develop and implement an integrated supplier risk management framework, bringing greater consistency, visibility and resilience across our global supply base.

You’ll work across regions and lines of business, connecting supplier risk with wider enterprise and Group risk activity and helping the organisation anticipate, understand and respond effectively to emerging supply chain risks.

You’ll combine strategic thinking with strong procurement and supplier management expertise, using data, market intelligence and collaboration to improve how we identify, assess and mitigate supplier risk globally.

Given the global scope of this role, European and wider international travel will be required to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders across our global organisation.

Some key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a global supplier risk management framework covering both structural supply chain risks and operational supplier risks.
  • Establish a consistent approach to identifying, assessing, escalating and mitigating supplier risk across regions and lines of business.
  • Support the development of supply chain risk governance, including the Supplier Risk Management Committee and interfaces with Enterprise Risk Management and wider Group risk organisations.
  • Establish common guidelines, standards, metrics and recommendations to strengthen supplier resilience and improve risk transparency.
  • Develop supplier risk intelligence and supply chain watchtower capabilities to provide greater visibility of emerging risks, opportunities and market developments.
  • Build effective collaboration models with key suppliers and internal stakeholders to strengthen resilience, preparedness and continuity of supply.
  • Use data, reporting and performance insight to assess supplier risk exposure, mitigation effectiveness and supply chain resilience.
  • Deliver training across Procurement on supplier and event risk management processes, tools and governance.
  • Leverage external benchmarking, market intelligence and industry best practice to continually strengthen Hitachi Rail’s approach to supplier risk and opportunity management.
  • Help shape the future direction and oversight of Supplier Risk Management across the organisation.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced procurement professional who can operate confidently in a complex, international organisation and bring together stakeholders around a common approach to supplier risk.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Strong procurement experience with knowledge of strategic sourcing, category management and supplier management tools and techniques.
  • Experience leading and developing cross-functional project teams.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to turn data and risk insight into clear actions and recommendations.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across different levels and business cultures.
  • Experience or understanding of Contract Lifecycle Management tools.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, networking and relationship-building skills.
  • A highly organised, methodical approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • A degree-level qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIPS, CPSM or CPM, or equivalent professional experience.

Just as importantly, you’ll be comfortable working across different cultures and geographies, building relationships globally and navigating a complex stakeholder environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
