The posting

GreyBird Pilot Academy is more than a flight school. We are a fast-growing international business in an industry that never stands still – training the next generation of commercial pilots.

Since starting out in Aarhus in 2013, we have grown to seven bases across Europe – from Dublin in the west to Helsinki in the east. Our students fly under the Spanish sun and across European airspace. Today, more than 200 students are training to become commercial pilots with us, supported by over 40 flight instructors and a fleet of 12 Tecnam aircraft, with 13 more on the way.

This is where ambition becomes reality – where safety, people, technology, operations and training must all come together before the wheels leave the runway.

You have an aviation background and have instructed from the cockpit yourself. With us, you will join a highly skilled team with short decision-making lines and plenty of room to shape our development. We turn the dream of flying into a career – and you can help make that journey even better.

The role

The Chief Flight Instructor (CFI) is part of our ATO Core Team and holds overall responsibility for quality, standardisation and compliance in the flight and simulator training delivered by our flight instructors.

You are appointed by the Accountable Manager and report directly to the Head of Training, with whom you work closely to ensure consistent, high-quality training. The Head of Training may delegate tasks and authority to you within your area of responsibility.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Standardisation, supervision and training planning for the entire instructor team
  • Developing and enforcing standard operating procedures for flight training
  • Ensuring that all instructors hold valid licences, certificates and competencies
  • Recruiting new instructors as well as guiding, mentoring and providing recurrent training for the existing team
  • Assessing new bases as we expand into new countries
  • Updating training materials and operations manuals on our in-house platform, SmartBird
  • Taking part in ATO and management meetings, where you help set the direction for training

What we offer:

  • Real decision-making authority over training quality and standards in a growing international organisation
  • A direct reporting line to the Head of Training and close ties to management
  • An established ATO with a clear, EASA-approved framework for the role
  • Access to a modern and growing fleet
  • An international working environment with colleagues and instructors from several countries

Requirements

The Chief Flight Instructor is a nominated post under EASA Part-ORA (ORA.ATO.210). In line with the regulation, the CFI must hold the highest pilot licence and at least one instructor certificate relevant to the courses the school offers. As GreyBird offers ATPL theory, several aircraft types and type rating-related training, we are looking for:

  • CPL(A) or ATPL(A)
  • Instructor certificate: FI(A)
  • Additional instructor certificates such as CRI(A) and IRI(A) are considered an advantage
  • A minimum of 1,000 hours as PIC, including at least 500 hours of instructional flying (industry practice is typically 1,500+ hours, and more experience counts in your favour)
  • Ideally, you also have experience leading, standardising or developing other instructors
  • Fluent English, spoken and written

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
