Position Summary: Hoffman Construction is seeking a motivated and growth-oriented Data Analyst to join our expanding Data team. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive database of historical project information across Hoffman's self-perform operations. The Data Analyst will collect, validate, organize, and analyze project data, including unit production rates, labor rates, salaries, project cost of work, and indirect costs, creating a trusted source of truth for estimating, operational performance analysis, and strategic decision-making. Working closely with affiliate companies, operational leaders, estimators, and project teams, this individual will ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of historical data used to support and defend project estimates, benchmark performance, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. The role will leverage traditional and advanced analytics, to uncover trends, improve forecasting capabilities, and support the development of data-driven cost estimates derived from historical project performance. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and skilled in transforming complex construction data into meaningful insights through Power BI, Excel, Smartsheet, and other approved technologies. Reporting to the Data Manager, this position requires strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, along with a passion for building scalable data solutions that drive measurable business value. This is an in-person position at the office in Tempe, AZ.
Salary Range: $71,000 - $87,000 DOE
Essential Responsibilities:
- Partner with self-perform companies to design, build, and maintain a centralized historical project database.
- Organize historical self-perform data such as unit rates, labor rates, cost of work, production metrics, and similar.
- Analyze historical project performance to improve future cost estimate accuracy.
- Partner with self-perform companies to develop productivity, cost, and performance benchmarks by market sector and self-perform discipline.
- Collaborate with affiliate company team members to align analytic and reporting needs with company and project priorities.
- Participate in the creation and continuous enhancement of reports and dashboards using Excel, Smartsheet, Power BI, or other data analytic / business intelligence tools.
- Deliver insights on productivity, labor utilization, cost performance, and profitability.
- Determine ways to automate data collection and reporting processes to ensure accurate and timely data updates.
- Develop quality-control processes and automated validation checks.
- Validate and reconcile project information from multiple source systems.
- Identify and correct data discrepancies, omissions, and inconsistencies.
- Participate in the creation of semantic models for use in reporting and AI work.
- Participate in the creation and continuous enhancement of data analytics tools to promote predictability and operational efficiencies.
- Collaborate with data science and technology teams on advanced analytical projects, including potential AI-enabled estimating and forecasting initiatives.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on data, reporting, and analytics tools, keeping abreast of technological advancements and industry trends.
- Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Educate and guide cross-functional teams on leveraging analytics and reporting tools effectively, aligning with project goals.
- Foster collaboration across departments to develop data products and tools, defining success metrics and delivering presentations that drive actionable insights and support strategic decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Science/Management, or a related field of study, or equivalent work experience required.
- Three (3) + years of professional data analysis and BI reporting experience. Statistical analysis and data science (ML) preferred.
Position Related Skills:
- Proficient using Power BI, Excel, Smartsheet, and other data analytic tools, with an aptitude for learning new tools.
- Proficient in data analysis skills such as data cleansing and preparation, data visualization, mathematical and statistical calculation, dashboarding and reporting.
- Proficient with data (semantic) modeling techniques required.
- Proficient in both DAX and Smartsheet programming languages.
- Practical experience in statistical analysis using statistical packages, including Excel, Power BI, R, or Python.
- Experience with Python programming and creating automations, especially within Power BI.
- Knowledge of and experience with Generative A.I. tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, MS Copilot, or similar.
- Ability to digest disparate data sources and decipher how they can be best used to create operational efficiencies and support data-driven decisions.
- Ability to communicate complex information to a range of data-literate audiences.
- Ability to solve problems independently and cooperatively with other team members.
- Proficient technical writing experience in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and the medallion structure of data flows is beneficial.
- Knowledge of basic software development practices such as Development, Testing, and Production environments is beneficial.
- Knowledge of data security concepts and processes is beneficial.
- Previous experience in the construction industry is beneficial.
- Familiarity with construction management software, such as Procore, is beneficial.
