Title: Field Trainer, Dairy Stores
Department: Strategic Operations
Reports to: Head of Strategic Operations
Location: Field-based, living within driving distance of the Chicago area, with up to 75% travel to our dairy stores in IL, IN, MI, and MO
Status: Full-time, individual contributor
Pay range: $78,000–$91,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications
About the role
Oberweis has been a family name in dairy for generations, and our stores are where customers meet the brand. We want every store to feel like One Oberweis: the same great service, the same standards, and the same pride, whether you’re in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, or Missouri.
Great training only matters if it shows up on the floor. As our Field Trainer, you’ll spend most of your week in our stores, making sure training is being done correctly and used every shift. You’ll coach store teams in the moment, build up the trainers inside each store, and work with general managers and operations leaders to turn training into better store results. You’ll be an ambassador for our One Oberweis culture and the go-to expert on training in the field.
A big part of this role is turning the standard operating procedures we already have into training. You’ll use the AI tools in our learning platform, Oberweis University, to document our established SOPs as clear, easy-to-follow training, then teach them to the trainers in each store. This isn’t about designing new programs from scratch; it’s about making sure every store learns and follows the standards we already have.
You’ll be the first hire on our new learning team for our dairy stores. As we add an instructional designer to build new programs, you’ll work hand in hand: they design new training, and you make sure our standards are documented, taught, and followed in every store.
What you’ll do
SOP training
- Document our SOPs. Work with operations leaders and general managers to gather our established standard operating procedures and confirm how each task should be done.
- Turn SOPs into training with AI tools. Use the AI tools in Oberweis University to turn each SOP into short, mobile-friendly training: step-by-step guides, checklists, job aids, and quick knowledge checks.
- Check for accuracy. Review AI-generated content carefully and have operations leaders confirm it matches the SOP before it goes to stores.
- Lead train-the-trainer sessions. Teach SOP training to the certified trainers in each store so they can train new hires and current team members the same way, every time.
- Roll out updates. When an SOP changes, update the training and get it to store trainers quickly.
- Keep it organized. Maintain a current library of SOP training in Oberweis University, with assignments and completions tracked for every store.
Store training
- Focus on three areas. Drive results through team member training, manager training, and developing our people for their next role.
- Visit and evaluate stores. Visit every Oberweis store on a regular schedule, observe shifts, and document what you find about how well training is working and where stores need operational support.
- Check that training is applied. Use simple checklists to confirm employees are doing the job the way they were trained, including Scoop Certification skills checks.
- Coach Sweeten Their Day. Observe and coach our hospitality behaviors on the floor so great service becomes a habit, not a poster.
- Coach on the spot. When something isn’t being done right, show the team the right way, explain why it matters, and follow up on the next visit.
- Build training stores. Help select and certify stores that set the standard for training, where new hires and new managers can learn from the best.
- Support new store openings and launches. Deliver training for new store openings, product launches, and LTOs.
- Grow our people. Help general managers spot and develop team members ready for shift lead and management roles.
Partnership and reporting
- Partner with operations. Work with Ken, operations leaders, and general managers on how training can improve store performance.
- Use the data. Track store audit results, guest feedback, store scorecards, and LMS completions to decide where to go and what to focus on.
- Report what you find. Give regular updates on training performance, trends, and stores that need extra support.
- Close the loop. Share what you see in stores so training that isn’t working gets fixed.
- Work with HR. Partner with HR and recruiting on development plans that help us promote from within.
