This role is responsible for developing leaders, strengthening safety culture, and ensuring safety is proactively integrated into daily operations. The Safety Director drives alignment between safety and production through planning, operational engagement, and the implementation of effective controls to manage risk while supporting business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision for safety culture, expectations, and performance across fabrication, manufacturing, warehouse, and support operations, with emphasis on Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention and high-consequence risk management.
  • Develop and lead safety professionals, supervisors, and operational leaders to build a strong culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, and executive leadership to align safety initiatives with production goals and business objectives.
  • Influence facility operations, process improvements, equipment installations, and workplace design to ensure hazards are identified and mitigated early through effective planning and risk assessment.
  • Drive consistency in how safety is planned, communicated, and executed across departments, reinforcing proactive hazard identification and safe work practices.
  • Lead organizational alignment, communication, and accountability around safety performance, with a focus on reducing high-risk exposures and strengthening a learning culture.
  • Oversee incident investigations, trend analysis, corrective actions, and organizational learning, ensuring findings are translated into sustainable process improvements.
  • Provide guidance on complex and high-risk operations including machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), crane and rigging activities, powered industrial trucks, hot work, confined space entry, welding operations, and material handling.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards while proactively identifying opportunities to exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, leadership teams, regulatory agencies, customers, and external partners.
  • Lead talent development, succession planning, and long-term growth of safety personnel and operational leaders.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and strategic safety resource, providing guidance on risk management, operational safety, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement through safety metrics, audits, field observations, employee feedback, and innovation.
  • Support emergency preparedness, response planning, and business continuity efforts for the facility.
  • Promote employee engagement by encouraging participation in safety committees, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • BCSP CSP (preferred) or equivalent senior safety certification.
  • OSHA 500 required; additional manufacturing, industrial hygiene, or environmental certifications preferred.
  • Extensive leadership experience in industrial manufacturing, fabrication, heavy production, or similar operational environments.
  • Strong ability to influence teams, lead through others, and drive organizational alignment.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating safety into production operations, maintenance activities, equipment installations, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience developing and managing safety programs involving machine guarding, hazardous energy control (LOTO), powered industrial trucks, cranes, welding operations, material handling, and industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and best practices applicable to fabrication and manufacturing facilities.
  • Proven ability to analyze safety data, identify trends, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership skills with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong focus on employee safety and operational excellence.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
