Role Purpose

The Content Team Lead will lead the development and delivery of content across hosting.com, working as a key member of the Organic Marketing function. This role is responsible for the quality, consistency and effectiveness of content across the customer journey, from awareness and product discovery through to onboarding, product adoption and retention.

Sitting directly beneath the Head of Organic Marketing (Content and SEO), the Content Team Lead will take day-to-day ownership of content production, editorial standards and the knowledge base, working closely with SEO, Product, Customer, Support and Brand teams to ensure content is accurate, accessible and commercially effective.

This role combines strong editorial judgement with a practical understanding of how content drives organic performance, customer education and commercial growth. The Content Team Lead will manage a small team setting clear expectations, developing capability and maintaining the quality standards that make hosting.com a trusted and useful resource for its customers.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver the content strategy and production

  • Translate the organic marketing content strategy into clear editorial plans, production roadmaps and content priorities.
  • Oversee the creation, editing, publishing and optimisation of content across websites, landing pages, product pages, campaigns, guides, email journeys and other relevant channels.
  • Ensure content is accurate, useful, well-structured and written in a way that is accessible to a non-technical audience.
  • Manage the content calendar and production pipeline, balancing new content creation with ongoing review, consolidation and improvement of existing content.
  • Identify gaps in content coverage across the customer journey and develop plans to address them.
  • Ensure messaging is consistent across acquisition, product, support and customer communications

Knowledge base and customer education content

  • Take ownership of the customer knowledge base, product documentation, tutorials, guides and educational content, ensuring it is clearly structured, current and genuinely useful.
  • Work closely with Product, Customer, Support and technical subject experts to create and maintain accurate, accessible product documentation and customer guidance.
  • Ensure the knowledge base is aligned with customer needs, product changes and recurring support enquiries.
  • Develop and maintain educational resources that help customers build confidence, activate their products successfully and achieve value more quickly.
  • Identify where unclear, missing or ineffective documentation creates friction, contributes to avoidable support demand or prevents successful product adoption.
  • Use search data, customer feedback, support insight and product usage information to prioritise new content and improve existing resources.
  • Establish clear ownership, review cycles and quality standards for knowledge base articles, documentation and educational content.

Maintain editorial standards and quality

  • Set and uphold editorial standards across tone of voice, accuracy, accessibility and brand alignment.
  • Develop and maintain clear briefing, editing, approval and publishing processes that support consistent quality at scale.
  • Ensure content demonstrates genuine expertise and answers real customer needs, rather than being created solely to target search volume.
  • Ensure appropriate human judgement, subject expertise and factchecking remain central to the content process, including where AI tools are used.
  • Identify and address quality issues proactively, including through structured content audits and regular review cycles.

Collaborate with SEO and wider teams

  • Work closely with the SEO Lead to ensure content is structured and optimised for traditional search, AI-powered discovery and customer usability.
  • Translate keyword and topic strategies into practical content plans and production briefs.
  • Partner with internal technical experts to turn complex subject matter into compelling, authoritative and accessible customer content.
  • Collaborate with Product, Customer, Support, Brand and regional teams to ensure content is aligned with product changes, customer needs and commercial priorities.
  • Ensure SEO and content requirements are embedded into wider planning processes, including product launches and website changes.

Measure and improve content performance

  • Track content performance against agreed measures, including search visibility, engagement, usage, customer feedback, support demand and activation outcomes.
  • Use performance data, testing and experimentation to improve content quality, organic journeys and conversion.
  • Identify underperforming content and take action to improve, consolidate or remove it.
  • Report clearly on content performance, opportunities and risks for the Head of Organic Marketing and senior stakeholders.

Lead and develop the content team

  • Manage, develop and inspire the content team.
  • Set clear expectations, provide effective feedback and support the professional development of team members.
  • · Build a team culture of editorial excellence, customer focus, commercial accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Develop internal capability while using freelance and agency support where this provides clear additional value.
  • Assess ways of working and recommend improvements to support quality, efficiency and team effectiveness.

Requirements

Experience and Knowledge

  • Significant experience in content strategy, editorial leadership or content management within a digital, technology, software, ecommerce or subscription business.
  • Strong editorial judgement, with the ability to simplify complex or technical subjects without losing accuracy or customer relevance.
  • Experience owning or contributing to a customer knowledge base, product documentation, digital education content or customer-facing guides.
  • Experience working with Product, Customer and Support teams to translate technical knowledge into clear and accessible customer guidance.
  • Understanding of how content supports organic search performance, AI-powered discovery and customer acquisition.
  • Experience managing and developing a team of writers, editors or content specialists.
  • Practical understanding of how AI tools can support content research, production and optimisation, alongside appropriate quality controls.
  • Experience setting and maintaining editorial standards, briefing processes and review workflows.
  • Experience using analytics, search data and customer insight to prioritise and improve content.
  • Experience working in or alongside a hosting, domains, website technology, cloud services or related technology sector would be beneficial but is not essential.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Strong editorial judgement and attention to quality.
  • Ability to make complex or technical subjects accessible and practical for a non-technical audience.
  • Clear commercial thinking, connecting content activity to customer and business outcomes.
  • Strong customer and audience orientation.
  • Ability to manage a production pipeline and balance competing priorities effectively.
  • Confident use of performance data and customer insight to inform decisions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Pragmatic decision making and effective prioritisation.
  • Ability to challenge low-value activity and focus the team on meaningful outcomes.
  • Ability to balance content quality with production efficiency and commercial pace.

Leadership Through Our Values

As a team lead, the Content Team Lead is expected to actively embed the hosting.com values across the content function. This means setting clear expectations, modelling the right behaviours, addressing conduct that falls short and ensuring the values are visible in everyday decisions, priorities and ways of working.

Be Pragmatic: Focus the team on content that solves genuine customer problems and delivers measurable outcomes. Make clear choices about where to invest effort, stop activity that does not create value and keep production processes simple and effective.

Be Trusted: Protect the accuracy, credibility and integrity of everything hosting.com publishes. Ensure appropriate human judgement and factchecking remain central to the content process. Communicate openly and build confidence through consistent quality and reliable delivery.

Be Energetic: Create momentum in the team, bring clarity when priorities compete and inspire writers and editors to produce their best work. Maintain pace without compromising quality or creating unsustainable expectations.

Be Accountable: Take ownership of content quality, team performance and production outcomes. Set clear expectations, use evidence to assess impact and create an environment where people can acknowledge mistakes, learn and improve.

Be Respectful: Build an inclusive and collaborative team where people can contribute openly, challenge ideas constructively and develop their skills. Respect the expertise of colleagues across Product, SEO, Support and other teams.

Be Innovative: Encourage thoughtful experimentation in content formats, production workflows and AI-assisted tools. Ensure innovation remains purposeful, commercially relevant and does not compromise quality or customer trust.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
