This role is responsible for generating new business and growing a book of financial institutions clients, including banks, asset managers, broker-dealers, private equity firms, insurance companies, and other financial services entities. The successful candidate will leverage existing market relationships and industry knowledge to develop and execute a new business strategy, while working closely with account management, claims, and other internal teams to deliver an exceptional client experience.

What will you be doing?

New Business Development

  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan, including target client lists, prospecting activities, and revenue goals
  • Build and maintain a strong network of relationships with prospective clients, attorneys, accountants, and other referral sources
  • Represent Howden at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to raise market profile and generate leads

Client and Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new and prospective clients during the sales process
  • Partner with account executives, brokers, and underwriters to structure, negotiate, and place appropriate insurance programs, including D&O, E&O/professional liability, cyber, fidelity/crime, and other financial lines coverages
  • Transition new clients smoothly to the account management team post-placement, ensuring continuity of service
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with existing clients to identify cross-selling and renewal opportunities

Market and Product Expertise

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the financial institutions insurance marketplace, including emerging risks, regulatory developments, and carrier appetite
  • Collaborate with underwriters and carriers to negotiate competitive terms and coverage on behalf of clients
  • Provide market insight and risk advisory support to clients and prospects

Collaboration and Reporting

  • Work closely with Howden’s broader FI practice, placement, and claims teams to ensure coordinated service delivery
  • Track and report on pipeline activity, win rates, and revenue production using Howden’s CRM and reporting tools
  • Contribute to the overall growth strategy of the New York FI practice

What are we looking for?

  • 5+ years of experience in insurance production or business development, with a focus on financial institutions clients (banks, asset managers, private equity, insurance companies, etc.)
  • Established book of business or demonstrated track record of new business production within the financial institutions sector strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of financial lines products, including D&O, E&O, cyber, and fidelity/crime coverages
  • Active Property & Casualty broker license in New York (or ability to obtain promptly)
  • Strong network of relationships within the financial institutions and professional services communities
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and comfortable working in a target-driven environment
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant industry designations (CPCU, RPLU, ARM) a plus

Compensation and Benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $230,000; actual base salary will be determined based on factors including candidate experience and work location. This role is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is eligible to participate in a commission-based incentive program. Howden also offers a variety of benefits and programs, subject to eligibility, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including healthcare savings and reimbursement accounts
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Flexible Paid Time Off and paid parental leave
  • Life and Disability insurance

Our sustainability promise

Howden is committed to building a sustainable business for its people, partners, and communities. This includes embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into how Howden operates and supports its employees in acting responsibly, both within the business and in the wider world.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
