The posting

We are seeking a highly skilled L1 Software Engineer to join Huawei’s Sweden Research Center in Stockholm and contribute to the research, architecture, design, and implementation of next-generation wireless baseband systems.

In this role, you will work on advanced Layer 1 (Physical Layer) software technologies for future wireless RAN systems. You will be responsible for translating advanced wireless algorithms into highly efficient real-time software implementations running on heterogeneous baseband computing platforms, including DSPs, CPUs, ASIC accelerators, and other specialized processing architectures.

You will collaborate closely with wireless algorithm researchers, SoC architects, DSP designers, compiler experts, and system engineers to develop high-performance and energy-efficient Layer 1 solutions for next-generation wireless communication systems.

Your work will directly contribute to Huawei's future wireless baseband architecture, software platform, and product competitiveness.

Responsibilities

You will contribute to the design, development, optimization, and validation of high-performance Layer 1 software for next-generation wireless RAN systems.

Layer 1 Software Development

  • Design and optimize Layer 1 / Physical Layer software for 5G evolution and next-generation wireless systems.
  • Develop real-time uplink and downlink baseband processing software.
  • Translate wireless algorithms into efficient implementations for embedded and heterogeneous baseband platforms.
  • Contribute to software architecture, module interfaces, data flow, and execution pipeline design.

PHY Algorithm Implementation & Optimization

  • Implement and optimize key PHY functions, including channel estimation, MIMO detection and precoding, beamforming, OFDM, synchronization, LDPC/Polar coding, HARQ, and Massive MIMO processing.
  • Evaluate implementation complexity, numerical accuracy, latency, throughput, and resource requirements.
  • Optimize workloads using SIMD/vectorization, multi-core parallelism, pipeline optimization, memory/cache optimization, DMA, and fixed-point techniques.
  • Analyze performance bottlenecks using profiling, tracing, and performance models.

Software–Hardware Co-Design

  • Collaborate with DSP, SoC, accelerator, compiler, and hardware teams to optimize Layer 1 workloads for target platforms.
  • Analyze workload characteristics and derive processor, memory, interconnect, and accelerator requirements.
  • Contribute to hardware/software partitioning and evaluation of new processor instructions, accelerators, and memory architectures.

Next-Generation Wireless Technologies

  • Investigate advanced PHY technologies and computing architectures for 5G-Advanced and 6G.
  • Develop proof-of-concept implementations for new algorithms and architectures.
  • Explore AI/ML-enabled physical-layer processing and contribute to future baseband software and SoC roadmaps.

Preferred Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of 4G/5G NR Layer 1, OFDM, Massive MIMO, beamforming, channel estimation, MIMO processing, coding, HARQ, and link adaptation.
  • Experience with DSP, SIMD/vector processors, multi-core architectures, ARM/x86, embedded systems, or real-time software.
  • Strong skills in C/C++, parallel programming, memory optimization, low-latency software, and performance profiling.
  • Experience with ASIC/DSP/CPU/FPGA/accelerator-based baseband platforms and software–hardware co-design.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML for wireless PHY or AI accelerator architectures is a plus.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MSc, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communication, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in 4G/5G Layer 1 or wireless baseband development.
  • Experience developing or optimizing large-scale, high-performance software systems.
  • Experience with multi-core, DSP, FPGA, or accelerator-based heterogeneous computing platforms.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong interest in wireless communications and high-performance computing.
  • Strong system-level thinking and performance awareness.
  • Ability to translate complex algorithms into efficient software implementations.
  • Self-driven with strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Other

  • The candidates should have highly developed skills in finding new innovative solutions, strategic visions and ability of leading and driving activities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

The numbers game

More applications. More interviews.

Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting and paid once. Send enough of them and the law of large numbers finds you the job.
