Advocacy Department and Development & Outreach Intern

Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an intern for the Stockholm office, assisting mainly the Advocacy Department, but also the Development & Outreach Department. The internship is full-time (35 hours per week) and will be for 20 weeks, starting in mid-January 2027. The internship is unpaid, and interns must be enrolled university students for the full duration of the internship.

This internship suits those who are interested in developing their experience within a global human rights organization, within a national country office. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities related to human rights and learn how the organization operates through communication, advocacy, fundraising, outreach and events. HRW interns have unique opportunities to attend lectures, trainings, professional development workshops, special events relating to human rights, and network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees. As an HRW intern, you will be able to use the skills and knowledge you have acquired during your studies and apply them in a professional environment. HRW’s Stockholm team sits at Norrsken House, located in central Stockholm.

Responsibilities:

Specific tasks may vary based on the interest and abilities of the selected intern. Some of the main tasks include (but are not limited to):

  1. Monitoring global developments and assisting in preparing relevant materials to support HRW’s advocacy work;
  2. Contributing in planning, organizing, and evaluating events;
  3. Participating in briefings with decision-makers and other key stakeholders;
  4. Supporting the fundraising team by researching potential sources of income, such as foundations and corporate partners;
  5. Assisting in spreading HRW's research and recommendations by creating targeted communications for both decision-makers and the general public; and
  6. Participating in developing content for HRW Sweden’s digital channels, including social media, newsletters, and the website.

Qualifications:

  1. Interns in Sweden must be enrolled students for the duration of their internship term.
  2. Coursework in a relevant area such as communications, media, political science, law or human rights is preferred, but we are open to other profiles as well.
  3. Applicants should be well-organized, creative, curious, flexible, and detail-oriented with excellent time management skills and a willingness to learn.
  4. Experience with collaborating within a team is desirable.
  5. The ideal candidate enjoys writing and has a good ability to express themselves in written and oral communication in both Swedish and English, and has a demonstrated interest in human rights, communication, social media, and/or fundraising.
  6. Good knowledge of MS Office programs, Word and Excel are highly valuable.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) söker en praktikant till Stockholmskontoret, för att assistera främst påverkansavdelningen, men även avdelningen för insamling och kommunikation. Som praktikant kommer du att få möjlighet att delta i ett brett spektrum av aktiviteter kopplade till mänskliga rättigheter och hur organisationen arbetar med kommunikation, påverkan, insamling och events. HRW:s praktikanter har även flera möjligheter att delta i föreläsningar, utbildningar, workshops för professionell utveckling, särskilda evenemang som rör mänskliga rättigheter samt nätverka med andra praktikanter, volontärer och anställda inom HRW. Som HRW-praktikant kommer du att kunna använda de färdigheter som du har förvärvat under dina studier och tillämpa dem i en professionell miljö. HRW:s Stockholmsteam sitter på Norrsken House, beläget i centrala Stockholm.

Ansvarsområden:

Specifika uppgifter kan variera beroende på den aktuella praktikantens intresse och förmågor. Några av de huvudsakliga uppgifterna inkluderar (men är ej begränsade till):

  1. Övervaka den globala utvecklingen och hjälpa till att förbereda relevant material för att stödja HRW:s påverkansarbete;
  2. Bidra till att planera, organisera och utvärdera evenemang;
  3. Delta i briefingar med beslutsfattare och andra nyckelaktörer;
  4. Stödja insamlingsteamet genom att undersöka potentiella inkomstkällor, t.ex. stiftelser och företagspartner;
  5. Hjälpa till att sprida HRW:s research och rekommendationer genom att skapa riktad kommunikation för både beslutsfattare och allmänheten; och
  6. Delta i att utveckla innehåll för HRW Sveriges digitala kanaler, inklusive sociala medier, nyhetsbrev och webbplatsen.

Kvalifikationer:

  1. Som praktikant måste du vara inskriven på ett universitet under hela praktiken

  3. En god kandidat är välorganiserad, kreativ, nyfiken, flexibel, detaljorienterad med mycket god tidshanteringsförmåga och en stark vilja att lära sig.
  4. Erfarenhet av att samarbeta i ett team är önskvärt.
  5. Den ideala kandidaten tycker om att skriva och har god förmåga att uttrycka sig i skriftlig och muntlig kommunikation på både svenska och engelska, och har ett visat intresse för mänskliga rättigheter, kommunikation, sociala medier och/eller insamling.
  6. Goda kunskaper i MS Office-programmen Word och Excel är mycket värdefullt.
