Description

Summary

Huntington Bank has an exceptional opportunity for a talented litigation attorney to join its dynamic and growing Legal Department. Using thoughtful legal analysis, strategic thinking, and business acumen, you will partner with business leaders, risk partners, and Legal Department colleagues to oversee a diverse portfolio of litigation, threatened litigation, investigations, subpoenas, and other contested matters involving Huntington and its affiliates.

The ideal candidate will have substantial litigation experience, sound business and legal judgment, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. In addition to overseeing individual matters, this attorney will play a key role in managing Huntington's overall litigation portfolio, reporting on trends and litigation exposure, and leading the Legal Department's eDiscovery function.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee litigation and pre-litigation matters by assessing legal and business risks, selecting and managing outside counsel, developing strategy, directing resolution efforts, and providing guidance in alignment with Huntington's legal, operational, financial, and reputational objectives.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to investigate claims, develop factual records, identify and prepare witnesses, preserve evidence, coordinate discovery, and support dispute resolution.
  • Lead the Legal Department's eDiscovery function, overseeing preservation and collection efforts, discovery and review processes, eDiscovery vendor relationships and technology, and ongoing enhancement of information governance and litigation support capabilities.
  • Help manage Huntington's broader litigation portfolio by developing and analyzing litigation and legal spend data, monitoring trends and legal risks, and using data-driven insights to manage exposure, improve decision-making, and strengthen litigation prevention efforts.
  • Prepare and deliver matter assessments, exposure analyses, reserve recommendations, and other reports to Legal Department leadership, senior management, risk committees, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across the Legal Department, control functions, and business segments to identify, manage, and mitigate enterprise legal risk, and perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctor.
  • Eligible to be licensed as corporate counsel or admitted to practice law in the state (Ohio preferred) where job will be located.
  • 5+ years of relevant in-house or law firm experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling litigation involving financial institutions.
  • Ability to assess risk, develop litigation and resolution strategies, and provide practical, business-oriented advice with limited supervision.
  • Experience managing legal budgets and controlling spend, using databases and other technology in legal matters, and applying data and analytics to support legal risk management.
  • Deep experience with eDiscovery, document preservation, information governance, litigation support processes, and related vendors and technology.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to balance priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to advise senior leaders on litigation risks, legal developments, and strategy.
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and able to contribute to a strong Legal Department and company culture.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a proven commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
