About Hy-Vee

At Hy-Vee, we believe the shortest distance between two people is a smile. We’re seeking people with a passion for customer service, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to being part of a team that strives to make our customers’ lives easier, healthier and happier.

The Role and Why It’s Important

The Backroom Manager keeps the behind-the-scenes operation of the store running safely and efficiently, making sure product is received, verified, and delivered to the right place at the right time. In this role, you’ll lead the backroom team, manage schedules, oversee inventory receiving, and maintain a clean, organized operation from the dock to the floor. If you are a dependable leader who takes pride in efficiency, safety, and getting things done right, we’d love to have you on our team.

What You’ll Do

No two days are exactly the same, but here’s what you can expect:

  • Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive one
  • Plan, prepare, and adjust work schedules, assign employees to specific duties, and follow up to ensure tasks are completed properly and on time
  • Receive product from trucks, verify invoices for accuracy, sign vendor paperwork, and receive all vendor orders
  • Unload trucks using forklifts and ensure product is placed in a non-intrusive area before delivering items to the appropriate department
  • Protect the cold food chain and maintain the integrity of all product throughout the receiving process
  • Coordinate the receipt and secure storage of controlled items including liquor, cigarettes, and pharmacy inventory
  • Process returned items with drivers and ensure signed receipts are returned to the accounting office in a timely manner
  • Ensure receipts are taken to accounting promptly and work with company subsidiaries to receive product
  • Maintain a clean, organized backroom and ensure cardboard and trash areas are cleaned daily
  • Maintain cleanliness of the dock area and behind the store
  • Maintain the area for sale items to ensure convenience for the management team
  • Stay aware of store needs, particularly in the grocery department, and work with internal customers in a timely and efficient manner
  • Keep training certifications current including forklift certification
  • Perform small equipment repairs for store departments as needed
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner to reduce product damage and spoilage
  • Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
  • Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
  • Report to work when scheduled and on time

Your Skills

To be successful, you’ll need to be able to:

  • Lead and manage backroom employees, maintaining high standards and a productive work environment
  • Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables
  • Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately
  • Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
  • Work effectively as part of a team to keep the store running smoothly and efficiently

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
