Job Description:

Job Title: Overnight Stock Assistant Manager

Department: Grocery

FLSA: Hourly

Revision Date: 07/2026

About Hy-Vee

At Hy-Vee, we believe the shortest distance between two people is a smile. We’re seeking people with a passion for customer service, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to being part of a team that strives to make our customers’ lives easier, healthier and happier.

The Role and Why It’s Important

As an Overnight Stock Assistant Manager at Hy-Vee, you’ll help keep our store running smoothly behind the scenes. You’ll assist in leading the night stock crew, ensuring trucks are unloaded efficiently, merchandise is stocked and organized, and the store is set up for a great day ahead. Your work directly impacts product availability, store appearance, and the overall shopping experience our customers love.

If you’re someone who takes pride in a job well done, enjoys leading a team, and thrives in a fast-paced overnight environment, this could be a great fit for you.

What You’ll Do

No two shifts are exactly the same, but here’s what you can expect:

  • Set and uphold department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations, and overall profitability
  • Supervise and direct the overnight stock crew, assign duties, monitor productivity, and hold individual check-ins with crew members
  • Oversee ordering from the warehouse including pre-orders for grocery, non-foods, and supplies, and coordinate work with assistant managers
  • Review and maintain the RPM system, including inventory setup, understock and backstock management, trigger settings, and order review
  • Unload trucks, break down pallets, sort items by aisle, and check in vendor deliveries piece by piece
  • Supervise drop shipments, direct store deliveries, and oversee produce and frozen food truck unloading
  • Write the overnight stock schedule and monitor time-off requests, vacation requests, overtime hours, and sick call-ins
  • Train new employees on stocking, facing, order tags, UPCs, register operation, customer service, and department services
  • Assist with customer service including checkout, sacking, carry-outs, cash accountability, and day-end reports
  • Set and reset new items, tags, and prices as needed, including in-store specials for prior ad items
  • Understand and troubleshoot store equipment including electrical systems, registers, coolers, compressors, and display cases
  • Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
  • Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed
  • You’ll receive direction and support from: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, and Overnight Stock Manager

Your Skills

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be able to:

  • Lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced overnight retail environment
  • Solve practical problems and make sound decisions with a variety of variables
  • Use basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with employees, vendors, and leadership
  • Work independently, stay organized, and manage multiple priorities throughout a shift
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; three to five years of similar or related work experience preferred

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
