This position sits within our Asset Strategy team, where you will influence strategic investment and policy choices that ensure the long-term resilience and performance of critical overhead line and underground cable assets. You will develop strategic asset risk plans that directly advance our RIIO-T3 and RIIO-T4 planning goals, helping us deliver a safe, reliable, and resilient electricity system. As part of our Circuits Risk team, you will provide technical guidance through industry coordination and innovation, while working across operational, engineering, and delivery teams to prioritise investment and address changing network needs. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on how we manage risk across our transmission infrastructure, advancing Scotland's Net Zero 2044 goal.

What you'll be doing

  • Ensure our investment strategy is clear and fully justified in line with Ofgem reporting requirements
  • Manage a network and asset assurance framework that demonstrates the fitness for purpose and performance expectations of our asset base
  • Manage asset risk and liaise with other industry parties on the transmission system, defining asset management strategies and plans in a cost-effective manner
  • Provide engineering assistance across SPEN as a technical specialist
  • Participate in engagement with key industry stakeholders on the technical development of asset risk management, ensuring SPEN's position is well represented and viewed favorably within the industry
  • Organise and plan workload across multiple simultaneous activities, balancing deadlines, competing priorities and stakeholder requirements while maintaining high standards of delivery

What you'll bring

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience in the transmission sector
  • Chartered membership of the IET or equivalent, or working towards this qualification
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transmission system assets, covering construction, operations, working practices, and systems
  • Strong knowledge of asset risk management approaches, risk assessment methodologies, and ALARP principles
  • Expert knowledge of transmission overhead lines (required for this role)
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards
  • Familiarity with the industry structure including the separate roles of the Electricity System Operator, Transmission Owner, and Distribution Network Operator
  • Knowledge of transmission network design approaches and regulatory frameworks impacting SPEN
  • Awareness of commercial issues related to distribution and transmission networks, financial policies and procedures, and SPEN's strategic aims within the ScottishPower and Iberdrola groups
  • Knowledge of international activities in power systems operations (beneficial)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to write clear reports and present complex technical matters to non-technical audiences
  • Track record of providing quality service and meeting customer expectations
  • Ability to organise your workload effectively across multiple activities, managing deadlines and various priorities with professionalism

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
