The posting

IBM HR Operations is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Japanese Language Specialist to join our Global Offboarding team in Bengaluru. In this role, you will own end-to-end employee separation transactions for IBM's Japan and broader APJ workforce, serving as the primary Japanese-language point of contact for exiting employees, HR Business Partners, and local People Managers.

This is a high-trust, service delivery role that combines language expertise with process rigour. You will handle separations from initiation through to Full and Final Settlement (FFS) closure, ensuring every exit is accurate, compliant, and empathetic — reflecting IBM's commitment to a positive employee experience at every stage of the employment lifecycle.

● Manage end-to-end offboarding transactions for Japan and APJ employees in SuccessFactors, covering resignations, retirements, contract endings, and involuntary separations

● Serve as the Japanese-language interface for employees, HRBPs, and line managers throughout the exit lifecycle — handling queries via case management tools in both Japanese and English

● Coordinate with Payroll, Benefits, IT, Facilities, and Legal teams to ensure exit checklists are completed within SLA windows (asset recovery, access revocation, badge deactivation, FFS processing)

● Validate data accuracy on all separation records before and after transactions; proactively identify and escalate anomalies or exceptions

● Manage Japan-specific compliance requirements including documentation standards, statutory notice periods, and any region-specific FFS components (e.g. retirement allowance, health insurance continuation)

● Support the APJ team during peak volumes and provide Japanese-language review of offboarding communications, letters, and process documents

● Contribute to SLA reporting, NPS/CSAT tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Global Offboarding function

● Business-level Japanese proficiency (JLPT N2 or above, or equivalent demonstrated fluency in a professional setting)

● 3–5 years of experience in HR Operations or Operations in general, Shared Services, or employee lifecycle / offboarding processes

● Working knowledge of HRIS platforms — SuccessFactors experience strongly preferred

● Familiarity with Japan HR/labour practices including separation documentation, notice periods, and retirement processing

● Strong data accuracy mindset with the ability to manage high-volume transactions without errors

● Professional written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English

● Graduate degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field

● JLPT N2 or native Japanese speaker

● Experience in a Global Business Services (GBS) or Shared Services Centre environment supporting APJ countries

● Hands-on experience with ServiceNow or equivalent case management / ticketing tools

● Exposure to sensitive separation scenarios (PIP exits, redundancies, retirement cases) with a track record of discreet, empathetic handling

● Proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets for SLA tracking; exposure to handling data, data analytics, reporting

● Exposure to APJ and EMEA separations process is an added advantage

● Problem Solver, Growth Mindset, able to work with AI tools (Microsoft Copilot and other LLM tools) is an added advantage.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
