The posting

This is a full-time, entry-level position expected to begin in the Summer 2027. This is a fully remote position from New York, however, the position requires regular travel throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties (Long Island) for meetings, outreach activities, and in-person events, typically 1–2 times per week, with occasional evening or weekend events. Team members will also be expected to attend quarterly in-person team meetings in New York City. Individuals may also utilize ICF’s Midtown Manhattan office for work if desired. Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license are preferred given the travel requirements of the position. Pay is anticipated in the mid $60K range.

Ready to make a difference?

ICF is looking for a Sustainable Mobility Specialist to join our Sustainable Mobility practice and support transportation and mobility programs across Long Island and New York State.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career professional interested in transportation, community engagement, and sustainable mobility. The role will have a strong focus on outreach, communications, stakeholder engagement, providing technical assistance to employers, communities, government agencies, colleges, and universities, and supporting in-person events, with opportunities to take increasing ownership of activities and initiatives while working closely with and receiving support from an experienced project team.

The successful candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and will be comfortable connecting with new people, participating in community events, and speaking to groups. They should be energetic, organized, collaborative, proactive, and anxious to learn.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support outreach and engagement with employers, community organizations, educational institutions, municipalities, transportation providers, and other partners across Long Island.
  • Help identify and develop opportunities to connect organizations and communities with sustainable transportation programs and resources.
  • Coordinate and participate in in-person events, meetings, workshops, and presentations, typically 1–2 times per week.
  • Develop outreach and communications materials, including presentations, emails, flyers, educational resources, and other program materials.
  • Present transportation programs and resources to partners, community members, and other audiences, with support and guidance from the project team.
  • Maintain stakeholder communications and conduct follow-up to support ongoing partnerships and program participation.
  • Track outreach activities, contacts, program participation, and other project information.
  • Support transportation planning, research, data analysis, and program evaluation activities as needed.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and activities while collaborating closely with project team members and clients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Communications, Community Development, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred as travel is regularly required throughout Long Island for meetings and events, including occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Relevant professional, internship, academic, or volunteer experience in transportation, community outreach, stakeholder engagement, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting community outreach, events, stakeholder engagement, or other public-facing activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort engaging with individuals and groups.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with an interest in building and maintaining relationships with community partners.
  • Experience developing outreach, educational, or communications materials.
  • Experience working with employers, community organizations, educational institutions, municipalities, or other external partners.
  • Familiarity with transportation topics such as public transit, active transportation, shared mobility, micromobility, or transportation demand management (TDM).
  • Familiarity with Long Island communities and transportation options.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with GIS, Canva, CRM systems, or similar tools is a plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
