The posting

The Global Janitorial Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for janitorial and custodial services across IDEXX sites worldwide. The role develops and implements a scalable global program that promotes clean, safe, compliant, and cost-effective workplaces while establishing consistent service levels and quality standards across offices, laboratories, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and support locations.

The manager leads global janitorial operations through a combination of direct teams and outsourced service providers. The role partners closely with Regional Facilities Managers, Global EH&S, Procurement, site leaders, and operations teams to align service delivery with business requirements and workplace expectations.

The role supports Regional Facilities Managers as the global subject-matter expert for janitorial services. It helps them manage vendors, contracts, and service quality, and it shares practical expertise on cleaning standards, products, and methods across regions.

In this role:

Global Program Leadership

• Develop and implement a global janitorial services strategy aligned with IDEXX operational and workplace objectives.

• Establish global cleaning standards, specifications, service frequencies, quality requirements, and performance scorecards.

• Define appropriate service models for offices, laboratories, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and other operational environments.

• Drive consistency across regions while accommodating local regulations, business needs, and cultural practices.

• Maintain a multi-year roadmap for service improvement, standardization, and program maturity.

Vendor and Contract Management

• Lead the sourcing, selection, onboarding, and governance of global and regional janitorial service providers in partnership with Procurement.

• Negotiate and manage contracts, service-level agreements, key performance indicators, pricing structures, and performance requirements.

• Conduct regular supplier business reviews, quality assessments, and corrective-action follow-up.

• Identify opportunities for vendor consolidation, improved service quality, operational efficiency, and cost optimization.

• Confirm provider compliance with insurance, labor, safety, sustainability, and IDEXX policy requirements.

Team and In-House Operations

• Lead, coach, and develop janitorial managers and supervisors.

• Establish staffing models, schedules, training expectations, work procedures, and supply standards for in-house operations.

• Build a culture of safety, accountability, service, and respect for frontline employees.

• Provide clear performance expectations and support consistent execution across geographically distributed teams.

• Support business continuity needs, site events, and specialized cleaning requirements.

Safety, Compliance, and Sustainability

• Partner with Global EH&S to integrate hazard communication, chemical management, PPE, ergonomics, and applicable biosafety or laboratory cleaning protocols.

• Ensure compliance with applicable local, national, and international regulations and IDEXX policies.

• Promote environmentally responsible cleaning products, equipment, and practices.

• Advance green-cleaning, waste-reduction, and responsible product-selection initiatives in support of sustainability goals.

• Ensure incidents, hazards, and nonconformances are reported, investigated, and addressed appropriately.

Financial and Performance Management

• Own the global janitorial operating budget, including planning, forecasting, tracking, and reporting.

• Identify savings and efficiency opportunities through sourcing, process improvement, technology, equipment, and service-model changes.

• Develop and report service-quality, cost, safety, productivity, and customer-experience metrics.

• Use audits, work-order data, supplier reporting, and stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement.

• Provide clear performance updates and recommendations to Facilities leadership.

Stakeholder Partnership and Customer Experience

• Build productive relationships with site leaders, business partners, Regional Facilities Managers, EH&S, Procurement, and service providers.

• Establish practical feedback and escalation mechanisms for service issues and customer concerns.

• Communicate program standards, changes, performance trends, and priorities clearly across regions and levels of the organization.

• Benchmark the program against relevant industry practices and emerging cleaning technologies.

What you need to succeed:

Required

• Bachelor's degree in facilities management, business, operations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• 7+ years of janitorial, custodial, facilities, or workplace-services experience, including 3+ years leading multi-site teams and outsourced providers.

• Experience leading geographically distributed employees, contractors, or vendor teams.

• Strong contract negotiation, budgeting, sourcing, and vendor-performance management skills.

• Working knowledge of EH&S requirements relevant to cleaning operations, chemical use, and frontline worker safety.

• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and implement standards across multiple locations.

• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and relationship-management skills.

Preferred

• Experience in life sciences, laboratory, manufacturing, distribution, or other regulated environments.

• Global or multi-country facilities-services experience.

• IFMA CFM, FMP, or a comparable facilities credential.

• Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement training.

• Experience with CAFM, CMMS, work-order systems, quality-audit tools, and service-performance analytics.

Working Requirements:

· Hybrid role with regular travel to IDEXX sites and vendor locations, approximately 10-15%.

· Occasional work in laboratory, manufacturing, warehouse, and technical-facility environments requiring appropriate PPE.

· Flexibility to participate in meetings across global time zones and respond to significant service issues when needed.

What you can expect from us:

· Salary targeting: $118,000 - 123,000 annually

· Opportunity for annual cash bonus and merit pay increase consideration

· 5% matching 401k

· On-the-job training and career advancement opportunities

· Additional benefits including but not limited to financial support, pet insurance, mental health resources, volunteer paid days off, employee stock program, foundation donation matching, and more

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
