Reports to: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Manchester

Purpose of the Role

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in delivering cost-effective and well-managed utility infrastructure projects. This role offers hands-on experience in the dynamic utilities sector, working closely with project managers and clients to ensure successful project delivery and budget control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions for utility infrastructure projects.
  • Support commercial management of live projects, including monthly valuations and payment processing.
  • Help procure and manage subcontractor packages.
  • Assist in preparing and agreeing final accounts, including claims and variations.
  • Gain experience working with NEC and other forms of contract on major frameworks.
  • Liaise with site teams, project managers, and clients to provide commercial support.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related construction/engineering field.
  • 12 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in civils or utilities (preferred but not essential).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in industry software and strong Excel skills.
  • Proactive, reliable, and eager to learn.

  • Accurate and timely cost reporting and valuations.
  • Effective support in managing subcontractor packages and final accounts.
  • Positive feedback from project managers and clients.
  • Contribution to successful project delivery within budget.
  • Demonstrated growth and development within the commercial team.
