At Illumina, we are expanding access to genomic technology to realize health equity for billions of people around the world. Our efforts enable life-changing discoveries that are transforming human health through the early detection and diagnosis of diseases and new treatment options for patients.

Working at Illumina means being part of something bigger than yourself. Every person, in every role, has the opportunity to make a difference. Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.

Exciting opportunity to serve as the technical leader for Illumina's high-throughput sequencing platforms. The Senior Staff Product Technical Lead is responsible for driving platform health, lifecycle strategy, and cross-functional alignment to deliver exceptional customer experience, product quality, reliability, and business performance.

The Technical Lead serves as the primary integration point across R&D, Quality, Operations, Service, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Commercial organizations, translating customer, field, and operational insights into prioritized platform investments and improvement opportunities. This role identifies and mitigates platform risks, guides lifecycle decisions, and ensures on-market learnings inform future product designs, roadmaps, and business strategies.

Operating in a highly matrixed environment, the ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with exceptional influence, systems thinking, and decision-making skills. The candidate must independently lead complex initiatives, align diverse stakeholders, balance technical and business tradeoffs, and drive measurable improvements in platform performance throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical and strategic lead for assigned high-throughput platforms, driving platform health, performance, and lifecycle strategy.
  • Develop and maintain an integrated view of platform performance across quality, reliability, serviceability, customer experience, and business outcomes.
  • Translate customer feedback, field insights, operational data, and product performance trends into prioritized improvement opportunities.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to identify, prioritize, and resolve systemic product issues and emerging platform risks.
  • Assess customer, technical, operational, and business impacts of product and process changes, ensuring balanced decision-making.
  • Drive lifecycle planning, including product enhancements, service strategies, cost optimization, obsolescence management, and end-of-support planning.
  • Partner with Quality and Regulatory teams to support post-market surveillance, risk management, compliance, and field action activities.
  • Lead On-Market Core Teams (OMCTs) and platform decision forums to drive alignment, accountability, and execution.
  • Communicate platform health assessments, risk profiles, strategic priorities, and investment recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Influence cross-functional teams to deliver measurable improvements in product quality, reliability, customer experience, and lifecycle value.
  • Partner with development teams to ensure on-market learnings are incorporated into future platform designs and roadmap decisions.

  • Strong understanding of quality systems, risk management frameworks, and regulated product development environments.
  • Experience translating technical issues, customer insights, and field data into strategic business decisions and investment recommendations.
  • Proven experience leading complex product, platform, or portfolio strategies in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication, executive presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, supply chain, field service, customer support, and commercial operations.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing products and platforms strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with FDA-regulated product development processes, design controls, and post-market requirements.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
