About Impact Justice

Impact Justice advances safety, justice, and opportunity through boundary-breaking work that honors and empowers people and is changing expectations about what we can accomplish together. We imagine, build, and scale innovations, leverage research and other knowledge to connect the desire for change with informed action, and work to shift the narrative so that decision-makers and the public understand what’s at stake and what’s possible.

About The Homecoming Project

Using the sharing economy model, the Homecoming Project (THP) at Impact Justice (IJ) pairs individuals returning home from prison with welcoming community residents (hosts) who have a room in their home to spare. The Homecoming Project pays each host a monthly stipend for housing the participant for up to 6 months. And, THP participants are provided a community navigator that works to connect them to the resources, supports, and wraparound services necessary for community re-entry. This innovative reentry housing project began in the Bay Area in 2018 and, to date, has housed over 200 returning individuals into homes. The Homecoming Project is currently in Alameda County, Contra Costa County, San Francisco County, and Los Angeles County.

The Role

Impact Justice seeks a Homecoming Project Program Manager. This is a highly community-facing role. The Program Manager should expect to spend significant time in the field across Los Angeles County meeting with hosts, community partners, and organizers, attending events, and supporting outreach activities. This role will lead the host and housing component of the program, inclusive of managing organizers in host recruitment, engagement, and training. The manager will oversee all aspects of the program, including recruitment, training, and engagement and retention of hosts and a team of organizers, while ensuring the program meets its goals and benchmarks. This role is critical in providing stable housing, fostering community connections, and supporting successful reintegration.

What You Will Do

- Program Management: Supervise a team of organizers, manage day-to-day team goals and metrics, and track benchmarks (e.g., host sign-ups, events, and participant outcomes). Support staff by troubleshooting client issues and escalating complex or unresolved matters to appropriate team members when necessary.

- Host Recruitment, Retention & Engagement: Build and lead a host recruitment pipeline through community organizing strategies, including outreach events, house gatherings, faith-based engagement, and partnerships with community organizations. Lead host recruitment, retention and engagement, including strategies to deliver impactful trainings and partnering with newly formed community board members to expand our host network.

- Community Engagement: With the Senior Program Manager, co-lead and support the newly built Community Host Advisory Board to ensure they remain engaged and impactful. Lead the coordination, planning and facilitation of the board meetings to expand host recruitment. Strengthen local partnerships with other volunteers, leaders, organizational partners, and potential supporters to reach host recruitment targets.

- Event Coordination: Plan and coordinate events, meetings, and house parties to promote the program and recruit additional hosts.

- Data & Logistics: Manage lists, call sheets, and program data to ensure efficient operations and reporting.

- Strategically Organize: Bring an organizer’s mindset to strategically growing and engaging hosts by building trusting relationships, tracking engagement, understanding the local environment, providing leadership opportunities for your team, and speaking publicly about the program.

Skills and Experience:

- 2-4 years of professional experience in community organizing, civic engagement, or community relations, with knowledge and relationship in the local area preferred.

- 3-4 years of experience in management to achieve performance goals

- Comfort presenting the program to community groups, faith congregations, and local partners to inspire host recruitment. This person will need to have strong public speaking skills, in a variety of rooms.

- Comfort in organizing a variety of community members, including communities of faith, communities impacted by the justice system, and local elected officials.

- Ability to recruit, coordinate, and supervise volunteers and engage coalition partners and consultants in a team environment.

- Experience and ability to work across teams and departments to achieve collective goals.

- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and proficient in time management.

- Motivated self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Willingness to work long hours and weekends as needed.

- Access to reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and auto insurance (with the ability to transport materials to meetings and events).

- Other duties as needed.

Additional Requirements:

- Hybrid position based in Los Angeles. At least two days required in office plus additional days periodically as required for the role; with Thursday as a required day.

- Frequent fieldwork and weekly office meetings. A valid Driver’s License with a reliable vehicle, with current registration and proof of insurance is required.

- Requires frequent local travel within Los Angeles including South Bay, South LA, and Southeast LA; mileage reimbursement provided.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
