PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To assist with the safe installation, repair and maintenance of instrumentation equipment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent is essential is essential
  • Serviceman Certificate (Applicable Training Structures) is essential
  • 3 years' experience as an Engineering Assistant with work related experience is essential

COMPETENCIES:

  • Read, interpret and produce basic engineering drawings
  • Identify, inspect, use, maintain and care for engineering hand tools
  • Select, use and care for engineering power tools
  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in a workplace
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the uses and safety aspect associated with flammable energy sources
  • Understand basic instrumentation engineering principles
  • Understand fundamentals of instrumentation
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of installing Instrumentation equipment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and install Instrument impulse lines
  • Demonstrate an understanding of fault-finding techniques on field instrumentation
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and maintain flow equipment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and maintain level equipment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and maintain pressure equipment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and maintain temperature equipment
  • Demonstrate knowledge to calibrate Gas detection instruments in underground operations
  • Splicing and testing of Optic Fibre cables

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Installs:
  • instrument impulse lines
  • equipment (Flow, Level, Pressure, Temperature and Analytical)
  • equipment associated with Final Control Elements
  • Installs, tests and maintains basic pneumatic systems
  • Maintains compressors
  • Overhauls all instrumentation related equipment.
  • Assists artisans with fault-finding and repairs on all instrumentation related equipment.
  • Conducts daily inspections on section.
  • Cleans all PLC panels.
