Reports To: Site Services Foreman

About the Role:

We are seeking skilled and safety-oriented Equipment Operators to join our Site Wide Services team at Highland Valley Copper. This multi-year construction project is expected to run through the end of 2027. Operators will play a key role in supporting site infrastructure, road building, laydown preparation, environmental controls, snow clearing, and general support activities across the construction site.

Ideal candidates will have experience operating heavy civil equipment primarily excavators and dozers, but also experience with graders, haul trucks and skid steers/loaders. Success in this role requires a commitment to safety, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to be a team player and adapt to shifting priorities as project needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely and effectively operate heavy equipment (excavator, dozer, grader, haul truck, skid steer, loader) to support a wide range of site construction and maintenance activities.
  • Perform grading, leveling, trenching, backfilling, and road building tasks as required by project scope.
  • Support laydown yard development, utility trenching, berm construction, and other civil works.
  • Assist with snow removal, dust suppression, and surface maintenance during seasonal operations.
  • Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and perform basic equipment care.
  • Maintain situational awareness while operating around workers, vehicles, and site infrastructure.
  • Follow established safe dig protocols and work cautiously around utilities, buried infrastructure, and identified underground hazards.
  • Support ground disturbance planning, spotters, and utility locates to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, spotters, and ground crews to maintain a safe work zone.
  • Work collaboratively with labourers, supervisors, and other operators to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude in adapting to daily changes, site conditions, or assignments outside of regular operating tasks.
  • Support the overall success of the team through cooperation, initiative, and a willingness to assist wherever needed.
  • Follow all site-specific safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Other responsibilities to support the success of company’s project and exceed client delivery expectations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating excavators and dozers.
  • Preference will be given to those that also have 2-3 years experience operating graders, haul trucks, loaders, or skid steers.
  • Strong understanding of heavy civil construction practices including material handling, site grading, and road construction.
  • Experience working around underground utilities, utility corridors, and/or on active mine sites.
  • Minimum requirement of a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence; Class 3 or Class 1 Licence is considered an asset.
  • Physically fit and capable of working 10-hour shifts in changing weather and site conditions.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
  • Willingness to assist with general site labour or non-operating tasks when required.

Preferred Assets:

  • Multiple equipment certifications or proven competency on more than one machine.
  • Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, Level 1 First Aid, or other relevant safety certifications.
  • Previous work in mining or remote industrial projects.
  • Experience with fueling and inspecting mobile equipment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for identifying minor equipment issues.

Additional Information:

  • Shift Schedule: 14 days on / 7 days off, 10-hour shifts.
  • Shuttle Service Provided: Transportation to and from the Highland Valley Copper mine site is available from Kamloops and Merritt.
  • Preference for local candidates or those willing to commute to shuttle pick-up points.

What We Offer:

  • Hourly Rates: $37.00 – $43.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly wage with overtime opportunities.
  • Benefits: Health & dental benefits.
  • Stability: Long-term project expected to run through the end of 2027.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
