The posting

About Us:

Geopacific Consultants Ltd. is a leading geotechnical engineering consulting firm that specializes in providing innovative solutions to complex challenges faced by our clients. Incorporated in 1985, and with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, and Kelowna, our team of experts brings together diverse experience and skill sets to deliver high-quality services in the fields of geotechnical engineering and hydrogeology. We work closely with our clients to understand their unique needs and tailor our approach to meet their specific requirements. With a strong commitment to excellence and safety, we have built a reputation for delivering exceptional results on time and on budget.

About the Role:

GeoPacific’s hydrogeology team works on some of the most technically demanding urban development projects in Western Canada. From high-rise towers with deep multi-level parkades to large multi-parcel master-planned communities, our work helps clients understand, manage and design around groundwater: assessing site conditions, predicting dewatering requirements, designing groundwater management systems, and guiding projects through municipal approvals. We’re a hands-on team that combines fieldwork with clear, defensible technical reporting.

On any given week, team members might be supervising drilling investigations, installing pumping wells or monitoring wells, preparing hydrographs, completing groundwater monitoring field work, building groundwater models, attending development meetings, or working on technical reports.

We’re looking for an intermediate hydrogeologist who wants to grow their technical skills alongside experienced practitioners, take real ownership of projects, and work on the kind of complex sites that build a career quickly. You’ll be mentored directly by senior staff and supported toward professional registration with EGBC.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • No two projects look the same. In this role you will:
  • Work on a wide range of hydrogeological and geotechnical projects across Western Canada, with a focus on the Metro Vancouver region. These span small sites of low complexity to high-rise and mid-rise developments with deep excavations to multi-parcel master-planned communities.
  • Assess groundwater conditions for deep excavations and help design dewatering systems, cut-off walls, pressure relief systems and underslab drainage.
  • Plan and lead field investigations: drilling and well installation, soil logging, hydraulic conductivity testing (slug and pumping tests), groundwater sampling, infiltration testing, percolation testing, data logger installation, and contractor supervision.
  • Run and interpret long-term groundwater monitoring programs, including hydrograph analysis and seasonal high groundwater assessment.
  • Build conceptual site models and support numerical seepage and groundwater flow modelling, for example in SEEP/W and MODFLOW.
  • Prepare clear, defensible deliverables: hydrogeological assessments, groundwater management plans, dewatering and inflow estimates, impact assessments, cross-sections, groundwater contour maps, and GIS figures.
  • Prepare regulatory submissions and support projects through municipal approvals. This includes by-law compliance, alternative solution requests, responses to third-party peer reviews, and occasionally presenting to municipal staff as required.
  • Contribute to project planning, budgeting, scheduling and QA/QC.
  • Mentor junior hydrogeologists and review their work.
  • Travel within BC as needed, mostly as day trips around the Lower Mainland, though occasional overnight work may be required.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a self-motivated drive to complete their work to the highest standards, strong interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational and leadership skills. GeoPacific is seeking an energetic, proactive individual who is eager to learn and gain technical experience. We take pride in providing high-quality work and service to our clients and expect the same from our employees.

Requirements

What you’ll bring

Minimum requirements

  • B.Sc. or higher in hydrogeology, geology, earth sciences, or a related engineering discipline (geotechnical, civil, etc.).
  • 3+ years of relevant consulting experience in hydrogeology or geotechnical investigation.
  • Registered as a GIT or EIT with EGBC, and eligible for or working toward P.Geo. or P.Eng.
  • Hands-on experience planning and supervising drilling programs, including soil logging.
  • A valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence, or equivalent.
  • Ability to manage several projects at once and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and on active construction sites in all seasons, with the physical ability to lift and carry field equipment as required.

Preferred requirements

  • M.Sc. in hydrogeology or a related field.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • P.Geo. or P.Eng. registration with EGBC.
  • Experience with AQTESOLV, AQTESOLV or Aquifer Test, MODFLOW, SEEP/W and QGIS.
  • Python skills for data processing and figure production.
  • Familiarity with BC’s Water Sustainability Act and Groundwater Protection Regulation, and with municipal groundwater and drainage requirements (e.g., City of Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver).
  • Experience with the planning, design and implementation of dewatering projects.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
