This is a dual business development role, dividing time equally between two complementary areas of the business. The position focuses on identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities across both disciplines, primarily within the UK market, with some international exposure.

The role requires a professional who can confidently engage with UK-based clients and represent the business as a well-established operator within the UK industrial and construction sectors.

Discipline 1: Industrial Electromechanical Erection & Maintenance

Key experience and knowledge areas include:

  • Industrial steel chimney erection and maintenance.
  • Experience within Oil & Gas and Power generation projects.
  • Understanding of the UK industrial erection supply chain, including EPC contractors, subcontractors, and associated services (e.g. scaffolding, insulation, cranes).
  • Familiarity with relevant UK regulations, agreements, and industry frameworks impacting industrial erection.
  • Strong awareness of the market landscape and key competitors.
  • Ability to prepare quotations and estimates, including labour rates and local cost considerations.

Discipline 2: Tall Concrete Structures (Civil Engineering)

This discipline focuses on specialist civil engineering works relating to tall concrete structures, predominantly in the UK, with some overseas projects.

Key experience and knowledge areas include:

  • Civil engineering experience on large industrial projects, particularly within petrochemical and power sectors.
  • Knowledge of modern construction techniques, specifically slipform and jumpform systems.
  • Experience with tall concrete structures such as chimneys, silos, lift shafts, or similar assets.
  • Understanding of internal installations within tall concrete structures is advantageous.
  • Ability to prepare estimates and quotations for specialist civil engineering works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research & analysis: Identify new customers, markets, partnerships, and growth opportunities.
  • Lead generation: Generate new leads through networking, cold outreach, events, and tender opportunities.
  • Client management: Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with both new and existing clients.
  • Sales & strategy: Develop sales strategies, prepare proposals, pricing, and deliver presentations.
  • Negotiation: Lead commercial negotiations and support contract development.
  • Performance monitoring: Forecast sales activity and report progress against targets to senior management.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal sales, marketing, and operational teams.
  • Mentorship: Support and train junior sales and business development colleagues where required.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven sales and negotiation capability.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to identify long-term growth opportunities.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and resilience.
  • Demonstrable experience in business development or sales with a track record of generating commercial income.
  • Experience in roles such as Project Director, Site Manager, or Contract Manager would be advantageous.
  • A proactive self-starter capable of developing long-term client relationships that generate repeat business.

Working Hours

Standard working hours are 08:45 to 17:00, with a 45-minute lunch break. Flexibility is expected to meet business needs.

Holiday Entitlement

  • All UK public holidays.
  • 20 days annual leave per calendar year (1 January to 31 December).

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
