The posting

Embedded Software Architecture, SI ICE Control – Expert Integro Consulting | Automotive & Powertrain Development | Sweden Help shape the future of sustainable powertrain technology Integro Consulting is seeking a highly experienced Senior Expert in Embedded Software Architecture and Spark-Ignited Internal Combustion Engine (SI ICE) Control for a consulting assignment with our client, Volvo Trucks. This is an opportunity to contribute to next-generation powertrain technologies, particularly hydrogen-powered combustion engines and alternative fuels for heavy-duty applications. Combining expertise in embedded software, model-based control, and engine management with technical leadership, you will help develop advanced control systems, automate engineering workflows, and explore the potential of physics-inspired AI and machine learning. About the assignment You will contribute to early-phase development and concept engineering within a multidisciplinary powertrain organisation. Your primary focus will be embedded software architecture and model-based control systems for spark-ignited engines, particularly hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2 ICE). You will work across engineering disciplines to develop robust, scalable control solutions while improving software development, testing, verification, and calibration through automation. You will also investigate how physics-inspired AI/ML can enhance modelling, diagnostics, control strategies, and engineering optimisation. Key responsibilities Embedded software architecture: Define scalable architectures and control concepts for SI ICE applications, particularly hydrogen engines.

Engine control: Develop and integrate ECU functions for air-path management, torque modelling, combustion control, knock detection, and knock control.

Model-based development: Translate system requirements into control models, software implementations, and verified solutions.

Software integration: Integrate ECU functions with sensors, actuators, diagnostics, communication interfaces, and powertrain platforms.

Automation: Improve software development, code generation, continuous integration, testing, and verification workflows.

Calibration optimisation: Automate calibration processes, measurement-data analysis, test planning, and optimisation.

Physics-inspired AI/ML: Explore physics-based and data-driven methods for modelling, control, diagnostics, and optimisation.

Testing and verification: Support SIL/HIL testing, engine test-bench activities, calibration, and release-readiness assessments.

Technical leadership: Lead design reviews, coordinate engineering activities, provide technical recommendations, and share knowledge.

Required qualifications and experience We are looking for a senior technical expert who can take ownership of complex engineering challenges and deliver high-quality solutions. You should have: An M.Sc., PhD, or equivalent expertise in control engineering, mechatronics, electronics, automation, applied physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field.

Typically 12+ years of relevant experience in powertrain development, embedded systems, or automotive product development.

Extensive experience in model-based control for spark-ignited combustion engines, including requirements, modelling, implementation, integration, verification, and calibration.

Deep knowledge of ECU function development, air-path control, torque modelling, combustion control, and knock detection and control.

Strong experience in embedded software architecture, AUTOSAR Classic, software integration, diagnostics, and automotive communication protocols.

Knowledge of functional safety and cybersecurity, including ISO 26262 and SAE J21434.

Experience with SIL/HIL testing, engine test benches, data analysis, and technical documentation.

Practical experience in automated software development, code generation, scripting, continuous integration, and automated testing.

Experience in ECU calibration and optimisation, including test planning and measurement-data processing.

Advanced working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and Python.

Experience with ATI Vision and/or AVL Concerto. Knowledge of ETAS INCA, ETAS ASCMO, TargetLink, and C/C++ is also relevant.

Strong technical leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex topics clearly in English.

You are proactive, structured, and results-oriented, with the ability to challenge established approaches constructively and collaborate across engineering disciplines. Meritorious experience The following would be particularly valuable: Development or calibration of hydrogen, natural gas, or other alternative-fuel SI engines, especially for heavy-duty applications.

Experience with physics-inspired AI/ML, physics-informed learning, hybrid modelling, virtual sensing, anomaly detection, or data-driven control.

Applying AI/ML to improve engineering workflows, software development, testing, or calibration.

Knowledge of software-defined vehicle architectures, AUTOSAR Adaptive, or RTOS-based solutions.

Experience in heavy-duty powertrain development, calibration, verification tools, or engineering methods.

Contributions to technical roadmaps, patents, scientific publications, or engineering competence development.

Interested in this opportunity? If you have the expertise to advance embedded engine control and sustainable powertrain technology, we would like to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a brief summary of your relevant experience, highlighting your expertise in embedded software architecture, SI ICE control, model-based development, ECU calibration, and automation. Please also include your availability and any experience with hydrogen engines or physics-inspired AI/ML. Apply through Integro Consulting to discuss the assignment and how you can contribute to this exciting development programme.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
