Purpose of the Role

The Tax Reporting Team Manager is a key member of the Customer Operations Leadership team, accountable for the day-to-day leadership, technical oversight, and control environment of a team comprising a Tax Specialist and Analysts. The role holder combines working technical knowledge of ISA, GIA, and operational tax reporting requirements with people leadership, ensuring the team delivers accurate, compliant, and timely regulatory submissions while meeting CASS and Consumer Duty obligations.

The role holder is accountable for: leading preparation and submission of operational tax reporting within regulatory deadlines; maintaining first-line CASS and Consumer Duty control; managing colleague performance, capability, and wellbeing; and deputising for the Technical Manager as required.

Requirements

Key responsibilities

Technical tax and regulatory delivery

  • Lead the team in the preparation, compilation, and review of tax data, ensuring accurate and timely submission of statutory returns and regulatory reports to relevant tax authorities.
  • Maintain sufficient working knowledge of ISA and GIA tax-wrapper rules, including HMRC subscription limits, transfer requirements, and eligible-investment criteria, to review and challenge team output effectively.
  • Conduct horizon scanning for emerging tax legislative, regulatory, and reporting changes (including developments relevant to FATCA/CRS reporting where applicable), providing impact assessments and overseeing implementation of resulting process, system, and training changes.
  • Review and sign off key reports before submission, taking ultimate accountability for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Oversee root-cause investigation of complex discrepancies and reconciliation breaks escalated from the team, ensuring resolution and process learning.

Risk, control, and regulatory compliance

  • Maintain first line of risk and compliance defence, ensuring the team's adherence to processes designed to meet FCA requirements, with particular reference to CASS regulation and Consumer Duty outcome monitoring.
  • Ensure 100% of CASS-related daily safeguarding activities are completed, with same-day escalation of any exception.
  • Log, track, and drive remediation of identified risk events through to closure, with monthly reporting to the Technical Manager.
  • Act as the escalation point for risks, queries, and complex or disputed cases (including FOBOWs), resolving within agreed SLA or escalating with clear context and a proposed course of action.

Team leadership, performance, and colleague experience

  • Lead, coach, and develop the team (Specialist and Analysts) to deliver agreed KPIs, quality standards, and customer outcomes.
  • Hold formal 1:1s at an agreed minimum frequency with every direct report, documented and evidenced in line with HR policy.
  • Manage colleague performance, conduct, capability, and wellbeing in line with HR guidance, escalating into formal HR process where required.
  • Build a multi-skilled, cross-trained team through continuous competence assessment, reducing single points of failure in tax and reporting processing.
  • Monitor and report on team performance including but not limited to team productivity and KPIs.

Continuous improvement, change, and representation

  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving tax reporting processes, with at least one live improvement initiative or project owned per quarter and outcomes tracked.
  • Support and validate testing of process and system changes affecting tax and reporting, documenting outcomes and issues.
  • Represent Tax and Reporting in relevant forums (e.g. Trade Meeting, Operations Leadership forums), providing prepared, data-led updates on KPI position, risk, and workflow, and following through on agreed actions.

Experience Required

  • Proven experience in operational tax reporting, including preparation, compilation, and submission of regulatory tax returns to relevant tax authorities.
  • Working knowledge of the UK tax-wrapper environment (ISA, GIA, and where relevant SIPP) and the operational impact of HMRC requirements.
  • Working knowledge of CASS regulation and Consumer Duty outcome monitoring.
  • Awareness of FATCA/CRS reporting requirements and their operational implications is desirable.
  • Proven experience managing a team in a fast-paced, regulated operational environment.
  • Capable of working under pressure against exacting regulatory deadlines, prioritising competing demands.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to translate complex technical and regulatory matters for both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Able to interpret and manipulate MI/data (e.g. Excel, Power BI) to extract insight and track KPI and control performance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
