The posting

Regional Director of Hospice

The Regional Director of Hospice is responsible for optimizing existing hospice services and designing, launching, and scaling new hospice programs and service lines in expansion territories. This role combines strategic planning, community and referral-source development, operational readiness, and program design so more patients and families can access high-quality hospice and palliative care.

The Director partners with clinical, operational, compliance, and finance leaders to strengthen current programs, identify unmet needs, and bring new offerings from concept to sustainable operation.

As the Regional Director of Hospice, here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do:

Optimization of Existing Programs:

  • Analyze census, referral patterns, length of stay, and market share; assist with setting growth goals for current service lines and locations.
  • Strengthen relationships with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, physician groups, home health agencies, and community partners.
  • Identify barriers to access and work with clinical and operations teams to improve intake, eligibility education, and timely admission.
  • Support referral-source education on hospice eligibility, levels of care, and the benefits of earlier referral.

Program Expansion and Market Development:

  • Research and recommend new service lines, care models, or geographic markets, including inpatient hospice, palliative care, rural expansion, and additional branch locations in South Carolina and Georgia.
  • Lead feasibility assessments, including community needs, the competitive landscape, regulatory requirements, staffing models, and financial projections.
  • Develop business cases and implementation plans for leadership and board review.
  • Coordinate licensing, Medicare certification readiness, policy development, and operational setup for new programs and sites.
  • Manage launch timelines, pilot phases, and post-launch performance until programs are stable.
  • Create and execute an annual program development plan aligned with the organization’s strategic plan and mission.
  • Represent the organization at professional, civic, and healthcare community events.
  • Track outcomes of new initiatives and report progress, risks, and results to executive leadership.
  • Ensure strategic growth in the community.
  • Establish new accounts, preferred provider relationships, and contracts.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Operational Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • Work closely with the Medical Director and leadership team to ensure new and expanded programs meet regulatory, quality, and clinical standards.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, operational policies, and procedures.
  • Analyze internal operations and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Oversee operational planning, maintenance, and efficiency.
  • Serve as a strategic partner on the leadership team and help ensure performance expectations are met.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to establish and advance organizational vision, operations strategy, and hiring levels.
  • Translate strategy into actionable steps through organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning.
  • Ensure appropriate business plans are developed annually.
  • Monitor performance using tracking software, take corrective action when necessary, and prepare detailed updates and forecasts.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and complete reports on the organization’s operating conditions.
  • Evaluate, select, and purchase equipment and supplies to support office operations.
  • Designate an employee to act in the Director’s absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Financial Management

  • Drive sustainable growth and minimize losses.
  • Develop and manage budgets, finances, and staffing to achieve financial goals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statements, including identification and reporting of revenue and expense variances against budget.
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contract provisions.
  • Maintain insurance contracts and licensing.

Quality, Compliance, and Contracted Services

  • Ensure appropriate data collection, Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, and reporting are completed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable national and local business regulations and take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Ensure hospice employees understand the laws and regulations that apply to their responsibilities.
  • Contract with adequate and available facilities to provide short-term inpatient and respite care for hospice patients.
  • Contract for appropriate drugs and biologicals, medical supplies, and durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Manage the annual evaluation of contracted providers and vendors.
  • Comply with HIPAA requirements regarding patient rights and confidentiality.

Team Development and Support

  • Coach and develop the operations team to achieve key business metrics.
  • Assist with the overall strategy, purpose, and vision of the Human Resources function, including recruitment, learning and development, culture, performance management, and succession planning.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
