Company Description

Combine patient counseling with medication safety and formulary management on an international pharmacy assignment in Balad, Iraq.

At International SOS Government Medical Services, you'll support healthcare programs that improve patient care and operational readiness across the U.S. and internationally. Founded in 1984, International SOS operates in more than 90 countries, delivering healthcare, medical assistance, emergency response, and workforce support services worldwide.

Job Description

In this role, you’ll assess, evaluate, manage, and support medication therapies for patients of all ages in outpatient and emergent settings. Your work will span dispensing pharmacy operations, medication guidance for healthcare practitioners, and accountability for prescription and controlled medications.

You’ll also chair the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, with responsibility for formulary management, and participate in other multidisciplinary committees and administrative projects as assigned.

  • Position Title: Pharmacist
  • Assignment Location: Onsite in Balad, Iraq; relocation required.
  • Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a deployed work environment.
  • Coverage: On-call availability required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and operate a dispensing pharmacy, including prescription intake and recording, accurate packaging and dispensing, and complete medication records. Collect daily data on prescriptions dispensed and the number of patients receiving prescriptions.
  • Counsel patients on proper medication use, possible adverse reactions, and polypharmacy. Provide medication education and prescription recommendations to practitioners, advise on potential interactions, and assist nursing staff with medication reconciliation.
  • Develop and manage a formulary appropriate to the population and medical services provided. Manage non-formulary, controlled, and other critical medications, including resuscitation medications and medications unique to pregnant individuals.
  • Oversee medication ordering and inventory to maintain required stock levels within established budgets. Manage the cold chain for temperature-controlled pharmaceuticals, including vaccines, and oversee expired medication returns to maximize credit when applicable.
  • Maintain accountability and required records for prescription and controlled medications. Participate in required monthly controlled-drug inventory counts, audits, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance throughout medication procurement, storage, distribution, and use. Review and update departmental policies, inspect medication stock and use outside the pharmacy, and report noncompliance to the Chief Medical Officer, Health Service Manager, and Chief Pharmacist.
  • Monitor pharmacy operations, report adverse drug reactions and medication errors, and implement quality improvements and corrective actions. Participate in mass-casualty drills as requested.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
