The posting
We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.
Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.
Location & Team Gatherings
Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.
We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
About this role
As a Project Manager - Natural Gas Projects on Intersect's Datacenters and Fuels / Natural Gas Power Projects team, you'll lead the execution of critical power generation and energy infrastructure projects at the convergence of electrification, digitalization, and decarbonization. Acting as the owner's representative across the project lifecycle, you'll guide complex natural gas-fired facilities—including reciprocating engine plants, gas turbine facilities, HV switchyards, substations, BESS, and large-scale data center power infrastructure—from development through commissioning and commercial operation.
Engineering oversight and technical judgment are central to this position. You will apply engineering principles to review technical designs, evaluate equipment and EPC contractor proposals, and resolve complex field and design issues while driving safety, quality, schedule, and budget performance.
Team overview
This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect's mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by delivering reliable, dispatchable power infrastructure that supports large-scale digital and electrical loads. The Datacenters and Fuels / Natural Gas Power Projects team partners across engineering, construction, commercial, and operations to execute resilient generation assets from initial design through commercial handover. Joining this group means taking direct ownership of high-impact infrastructure projects and growing alongside seasoned technical leaders committed to operational excellence.
What you'll do
Lead Complex Project Execution and Controls
- Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and risk registers for natural gas-fired power generation facilities from development through commercial operation and turnover.
- Drive project performance against safety, quality, schedule, budget, and operational readiness objectives while providing clear, actionable updates to executive leadership.
- Lead risk identification, mitigation planning, project closeout activities, and commissioning support to ensure seamless handover to operations teams.
Manage EPC and External Partner Performance
- Serve as the primary owner's representative for EPC contractors, consultants, utilities, and equipment vendors across all project phases.
- Oversee contractor compliance, commercial negotiations, change orders, and claims resolution, including rigorous technical evaluation of contractor proposals.
- Review and approve construction strategies, procurement plans, and execution methodologies while maintaining productive alignment across stakeholder groups.
Deliver Technical and Engineering Excellence
- Partner with engineering teams to review and approve technical designs, vendor submittals, and construction approaches, guiding decisions on design basis, equipment selection, and technical scope.
- Oversee the integration of reciprocating engine plants, gas turbine facilities, HV switchyards and substations, BESS assets, and large-scale data center power infrastructure.
- Drive QA/QC processes, technical bid evaluations, equipment performance guarantees, and startup/commissioning test procedures across engineering, procurement, and construction.
Champion Safety, Compliance, and Cross-Functional Alignment
- Foster a culture of safety excellence by conducting site inspections, field reviews, and audits to verify adherence to safety management systems, environmental permits, and federal, state, and local regulations.
- Partner closely with internal engineering, construction, commercial, and operations teams to resolve technical challenges, maintain project momentum, and build long-run value.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (Required).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in project execution, construction management, or engineering leadership within power generation, energy infrastructure, oil & gas, utility, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Direct experience executing natural gas-fired power generation projects (reciprocating engine plants or gas turbine facilities) from either the Owner's or EPC Contractor's side through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational handover.
- Strong technical grounding in HV switchyards, substations, BESS integration, and large-scale power infrastructure, with proven ability to evaluate technical designs, equipment proposals, and change orders.
- Working knowledge of QA/QC frameworks, commissioning and startup test procedures, and safety management systems.
- A hands-on leadership style that emphasizes face-to-face collaboration, composure under competing priorities, and disciplined commercial and technical negotiation.
- A commitment to collaboration, continuous learning, inclusion, and long-term value creation aligned with Intersect's values of Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
