The posting

This is not a direct employment position at Invest International. This is a Board of Directors appointment at Ful Foods, a portfolio company (investee) of Invest International.

About Invest International (The Investor) | https://investinternational.nl/

Invest International is a purpose-driven financial institution, backed by the Dutch State and FMO (the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank). We provide financing and project development expertise to Dutch businesses and their international partners, enabling them to expand abroad while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We act as a catalyst, supporting impactful companies that provide solutions for global challenges, particularly in areas like agriculture, energy, and climate. As an equity investor in Ful Foods, Invest International can appoint a non-executive director on the Board of Directors to guide the company's growth, governance, and impact goals.

About Ful Foods | https://www.fulfoods.com/

Ful Foods is a Dutch food-technology company, founded in 2020, that has developed a patented biorefinery of spirulina (microalgae) to create functional, natural ingredients that replace synthetic additives and resource intensive proteins. These ingredients are designed to integrate seamlessly into bakery, beverages nutraceuticals and personal care, without materially affecting taste or texture.

FUL Foods is closing its Series A at a key moment: the FDA's phase-out of artificial dyes has created immediate, structural demand for natural colour solutions, and FUL Foods has a patented, scalable blue ingredient with the potential to address this demand. With a Dutch BV holding structure, a US C Corp operating subsidiary, and a growing transatlantic B2B pipeline, the Investor Director will join the company at a key point in its development and have the opportunity to help steward the company through its next growth phase in a professional and ambitious board.

The Board currently comprises seven seats: three founders (CEO, COO, CTO), two investor directors (Next Gen Nutrition, Ejtemai Family Office), one independent director, and three board observers (Faber, Fair Capital Partners, Tundra Capital). Next to IIC director, the company is currently engaging an independent director as board chair.

The position

We are seeking a production and manufacturing expert to become Invest International’s non-executive director on the Ful Foods Board of Directors. In this role, you will represent Invest International while providing strategic mentorship to the Executive Team (including the CEO, COO, and CTO) as they implement their growth strategy and adapt to market realities.

Key Responsibilities & Strategic Fit:

  • Strategic sounding board on production: Provide oversight and strategic guidance on production and manufacturing strategy. Act as a critical sounding board for the executive team.
  • Institutional alignment: Serve as the vital link between Ful Food’s management and Invest International. Ensure that the company's trajectory aligns with compliance, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and reporting standards expected by institutional investors like Invest International.
  • Scaling: Contribute to major strategic decisions, including manufacturing scale-up, financing, commercial partnerships, operational priorities, M&A and longer-term exit readiness.
  • Oversight: Provide oversight of financial performance, milestone tracking, and governance in line with investor rights and shareholder agreements.
  • Participate in board meetings, held monthly, with quarterly meetings covering formal governance matters.
  • Executive Leadership: Prior experience as an executive in Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, CTO, or equivalent level at a scaling food and/or ingredient company.
  • Production Scale-up: Track record scaling production, including managing global CMOs and driving process improvements at a growing food, ingredient, or agritech company.
  • Unit economics: Experience driving cost-down and yield improvement as production scales.
  • Technical depth: A technical background in ingredients or food manufacturing, for example food science, process engineering, or plant operations, with fluency in the regulatory and quality standards (cGMP, food safety systems) that govern the space.
  • Natural color space: Familiarity with the global natural food color space, including regulatory dynamics and competitive landscape, is a plus given the market opportunity created by the FDA's dye phase-out.
  • Finance and M&A: Experience on either side of a strategic transaction in food/ingredients, corporate development at a flavor/color/ingredient major, or having taken a scaling ingredient company through an acquisition process, given FUL Foods' active fundraising and the potential for M&A as the company scales.
  • Value-add network: Well-positioned to make introductions to co-manufacturers, technical advisors, strategic partners, potential strategic acquirers or corp-dev contacts at major flavor/ingredient houses, and other operators as FUL Foods scales.
  • Institutional and Scaling Experience: Experience in managing investor expectations through various business cycles. Must have demonstrated experience working closely with, or serving on the boards of, companies backed by institutional or impact investors, with a strong grasp of their specific reporting and governance requirements. Additionally, experience growing an early-stage company.
  • Preferably based in the Netherlands.

Compensation

The role is remunerated through equity equivalents (STAK certificates) and D&O insurance will be provided.

Meeting frequency / time commitment

Time commitment would be monthly check-in meetings and four board meetings a year in Amsterdam, plus preparation and potential additional ad hoc board meetings. The majority of the meetings will be online/hybrid.

Selection process

If your background aligns with this profile, the process will include:

  1. Interviews with Invest International representatives.
  2. Interviews with the TRACT Executive Team and the Independent Chair.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
