Controller, Group Companies Location: Shelburne, OntarioSalary: $120,000 per year + bonusEmployment Type: Permanent, Full-Time We are looking for an experienced Controller, Group Companies to join our Finance team in Shelburne, Ontario. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller will have end-to-end financial ownership for a diverse portfolio of approximately 7–10 companies within our broader group of businesses. The portfolio includes manufacturing operations as well as other operating and holding entities and continues to evolve as our organization grows and expands into new businesses. This is a broad Controller mandate for someone who enjoys having ownership of the numbers while also understanding the business behind them. You will work across financial accounting, manufacturing costing, FP&A and business partnership, providing leadership with meaningful insight into costing, pricing, profitability and overall business performance. What You’ll Be Doing
Own the financial accounting, reporting and overall financial integrity for a portfolio of approximately 7–10 companies. Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate, complete and timely financial reporting. Review and finalize monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets and cash flow reporting. Maintain strong financial controls and identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting accuracy and financial governance. Lead and support the General Accountant assigned to the group companies, including coaching, development and review of work. Own manufacturing costing activities, including standard costing, bills of material, routings, cost roll-ups, inventory valuation and variance analysis. Analyze manufacturing costs, margins, pricing and profitability and translate financial results into actionable business insights. Partner with Sales, Operations and other business leaders on costing, pricing, profitability and financial decision-making. Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning for assigned businesses. Prepare and communicate financial analysis to support management decision-making. Provide guidance on complex accounting matters and ensure appropriate accounting treatment across assigned entities. Support annual financial statements, external audits, tax requirements and other year-end activities. Establish and monitor meaningful financial and operational KPIs. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across financial processes, reporting, systems and controls. Support the financial integration of newly acquired or established businesses into existing accounting, reporting, costing and control frameworks. Collaborate with the broader Finance organization and centralized Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Treasury teams. Take a hands-on, ownership-oriented approach to resolving issues and ensuring the accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial information.
What We’re Looking For
Canadian CPA designation is required. Current or recent Controller-level experience with full accountability for financial reporting and business performance. Strong manufacturing finance experience, including significant hands-on experience with standard costing and cost accounting. Strong understanding of manufacturing costing concepts, including bills of material, routings, inventory valuation, cost variances and standard cost development. Experience leading month-end and year-end close and preparing or reviewing complete financial statements. Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and performance analysis. Experience supporting multiple entities, business units or operating companies is strongly preferred. Experience with multi-entity and intercompany accounting and consolidations is an asset. Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations or organizational growth is a strong asset. Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles and financial reporting requirements. Advanced ERP and financial systems capability; SAP experience is an asset. Previous experience coaching, developing or leading accounting professionals. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with the ability to see the broader business implications behind the numbers. Strong communication and business-partnering skills, with the ability to work effectively with both financial and non-financial leaders.
